And yes, 6 hours is a massive issue for a growing child.

They don't have to give such huge discounts to those retailers.
Look at the works, as an example - they're supposed to be a remainders seller, but they're getting brabd new titles at hugely discounted prices! Selling for less than publishers sell to us!

@CMOBaoighill @andtheHare @JackieMorrisArt Books can be the same price but sold to retailers at a smaller discount (higher trade price).
Indies get a much smaller discount than thr big chains, but still sell them at RRP.
It's generally only new releases that are sold cheaper in the shops anyway

@etomlinson_art Did you get permission fom Michael Bond's family to draw it and sell the drawing in the first place?
Because Paddington is still very much in copyright (until 1st January 2088), and any commercial renditions of him must be approved by the copyright holder.

Not just being embarrassed to be seen with the book, but for adults that's a huge issue if they want to read a children's book. But the feel of the cover can make or break the success of a book. Crap covers don't sell

Word of bookseller works amazingly well, too.

@energywaster Erm. Do you remember the Roman Empire? Romans were all sorts of skin tone, as the empire spread around quite a vast area.
Plus, lots of international trade going on - I bet there were loads of little merchant babies running around rural england.

@szattwellauthor @JeanJAuthor @aprilhenrybooks @UnceasingToe It's all to do with rights. Trade pbs are sold at airports and published at the same time as the hardback. They aren't allowed to be sold for reading in the country, but it creates sales of brand new books for those going abroad who wouldn't take a hardback for weight.
