Equity Afya has launched its first standalone community pharmacy at Britam Towers in Upper Hill, Nairobi, targeting a network of 1,000 outlets with medicine price reductions of 50 to 80 percent.
The initiative, backed by the Gates Foundation, extends Equity Afya's existing 154-clinic network across Kenya and DRC. The franchise model will be run by graduates of Equity Group Foundation's Equity Leaders Program, which has awarded over 60,000 scholarships to date.

The National Assembly's Finance & Planning Committee proposes that the House passes an amendment to the Tax Procedures Act providing that in instances where the Revenue Authority has relied on dual assessment for filing taxpayer returns, it holds the burden of proof.
This formed part of our submission as the Tax Research Centre at @StrathU during the stakeholders' submission exercise (see quoted tweet).
A few issues still remain though:
· The Committee argues that while it is necessary to leverage technology in strengthening tax administration, there's need for adequate safeguards protecting the taxpayer. We are aligned
· However, the Committee's express proposal is that the Authority be obligated to share data with the taxpayer via a new Sec29A to the Tax Procedures Act
· There's no mention by the Chairman @KuriaKimaniMP of Sec56(1) of the Tax Procedures Act which expressly deals with the question of burden of proof
We live to fight another day I guess. Waiting to see what will actually be captured in the Finance Act 2026.

Patricia Kijedi never set out to become an international voice in the beauty industry, she simply kept showing up.
What she didn't realize was that people were watching:
Dubai became Italy.
Italy became Turkey.
Turkey became Algeria.
Today, she finds herself sitting in rooms with CEOs, founders, and industry leaders from around the world, representing Kenya and helping global brands understand what works for African consumers.
Her message is simple:
Believe in yourself, enter that room.
You never know who's paying attention.

Your entire life will change when you realize that anything above zero compounds. That showing up consistently matters more than showing up perfectly. That small things become big things. Never allow optimal to get in the way of beneficial.
Neerja Bhanot, a 22-year-old flight attendant, was on duty aboard Pan Am Flight 73 when it was hijacked during a stopover on 5 September 1986.
The hijackers ordered her to collect the passengers’ passports so they could identify and target individuals of certain nationalities, particularly Americans. Recognizing the grave danger this posed, Neerja, along with other crew members, quietly hid many of the American passports. Some were slipped under seats, while others were discreetly discarded down the rubbish chute, making it far more difficult for the hijackers to single out their intended victims.
After nearly 17 hours of terror, chaos suddenly erupted inside the aircraft. Neerja quickly opened an emergency door. Though she had the chance to escape first, she instead chose to remain behind, heroically helping passengers — especially unaccompanied children — to safety.
Her extraordinary bravery and selflessness cost her her life.
Neerja’s courage not only saved countless lives that day but also played a key role in preventing the plane from taking off.
One of the children she helped, who was just seven years old at the time, later grew up to become a captain for a major airline. He credits Neerja with inspiring his career and says he owes every single day of his life to her sacrifice.
"What’s the 10% of my job that I should focus on, that the AI will never be able to do to maintain a competitive edge?”
In a period of sweeping change, it’s a reasonable question to ask. But it’s not the most valuable question to ask.
Consider an experienced horse rider thinking about the skills they need to drive a car. If they ask, “What are the 10% of horse riding skills they should hang on to?” the answer is probably none.
Instead, they could ask: Which skills can I adapt to be a great driver? The answer is then: their reflexes and instincts.
The new challenge is not to optimize but to rethink our roles and companies.

Standard Chartered Kenya has accelerated a shift away from litigation toward negotiated settlements as it seeks to resolve long-running disputes and reduce legal costs, following a string of legacy cases including a Supreme Court defeat in a KSh 7 billion pension dispute.
The Supreme Court has dismissed the bank's appeal in a case involving 629 former employees, upholding a Retirement Benefits Appeals Tribunal ruling that the bank and pension trustees had misapplied the fund's governing rules.
The tribunal has ordered a refund of KSh 1.1 billion to the pension fund with interest accruing from February 2000, with actuarial estimates suggesting total exposure could exceed KSh 7 billion once interest and benefit adjustments are factored in. Chief Executive Birju Sanghrajka says three major legacy disputes have been concluded over the last 18 months, with one case 40 years old and another nearly 50.
The bank's Risk Officer James Mucheke says the negotiated settlements strategy has helped maintain a non-performing loan ratio of approximately 5.2 percent, among the lowest in the sector.

"*The era of financing every road, every power line, and every dam through government borrowing and taxation is over*," Mr Mbadi said in his budget speech.
Across Kenya, Africa and all other regions with infrastructure defict, opportunities for Public and Private to form partnerships for efficient infrastructure development will only increase
HISTORIC: John Mbadi has done it as expected, with an allocation of KSh 784.5 billion, education will receive 26.5% of the entire ministerial budget, making it by far the single largest recipient of public funding.
This allocation represents a 44.2% increase over the past four years, underscoring a sustained effort to expand access to learning, strengthen institutions, support teachers, and invest in the country’s future workforce.
This growth has been consistent;
✅2022/23 - KSh 544 Billion
✅2023/24 - KSh 628 Billion
✅2024/25 - KSh 657 Billion
✅2025/26 - KSh 703 Billion
✅2026/27 - KSh 784.5 Billion
In just four years, education funding has expanded by approximately KSh 240 billion, with the current budget alone increasing allocations by KSh 81.8 billion compared to the previous financial year.
Indeed education is the equalizer and President Ruto is doing his best #BajetiYaElimu 🤙🏽
