Aka Percocet Mom, I’ve written about my addiction to opioids for WaPo, Slate, Cosmo, The TODAY show & more. Devastated by my sister’s suicide. Essay @ModernLoss
Yes, @POTUS is “still” grieving his son who died in 2015. He is probably “still” grieving his first wife and daughter who died decades ago.
After losing so many people in 2020, let’s start to normalize the idea that grief doesn’t end in 6 months, in a year, or ever, really.
I said to my wife "Do you think anyone will commit suicide because they could not get an abortion?"
She instantly replied "yes."
Then she added "there will be all those boyfriends and husbands that murder them because they couldn't get one too" and that shook my fucking world.
We asked 12 not to Google me. I wanted to tell him about my addiction; I didn’t want him to learn about it from my essays.
Me: I need to tell you something. I was addicted to pills for many years but I have 6 yrs clean.
Immediate response: Way to go, Mom!
Kvelling.
8: I learned a new curse word. The ‘K’ word.
My immediate reaction was bafflement; then I thought of a K word and omg what did my Jewish son hear and where?
Me: I don’t know that one, can you tell me? Of course you won’t get in trouble.
He leaned in and said: KAREN.
You: A talented writer with experience covering tech.
Me: Just a girl, standing in front of a candidate, asking them to apply for this job.

@NoSleepInBklyn I read your op-ed piece concerning misappropriation of Jewish symbols and wondered if you had ever heard the Hanukkah story of the Blue Moose courtesy of Target? Yeah. Me, neither.
Using a well-known phrase from Passover and plopping it onto a #Hanukkah2021 item is offensive, writes @NoSleepInBklyn.
It doesn’t feel like inclusivity; it feels like tokenism and exploitation:

It’s not lost on me that when a man goes on a killing spree with his AR-15, people will say things like “mental health is not a joke”. But when a female athlete uses her goddamn right as a human being to take care of herself, said people absolutely lose their minds.
@HannahM_Writes @AnaMardoll Our son was rushed to the NICU after my emergency c-section and I told my husband to follow him. My husband said, “I don’t know him; I know you,” and stayed with me until I was ok.
@menysnoweballes My sister was a joyful, grateful person when she was well. Yoga teacher, nature enthusiast, organic eater. She was loved and loved more than anyone I know. If love could have saved her, she’d still be here. But her disease lied to her. @ModernLoss just shared my essay about her.
The message @NoSleepInBklyn wants you to know more than anything? Her sister didn't choose death. But depression was in control. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth https://t.co/Q6RgaunnE5
