MD/PhD student at UC Irvine. Former Stanford research assistant @TawfikLab. Currently in the La Spada Lab studying gene regulatory networks in SCA7 retina.
Our paper on systematic Immunophenotyping now published in Frontiers in Immunology showed sex-specific responses after painful injury in mice. So excited to be part of this amazing work. @TawfikLab@GaudilliereLab@NimaAghaeepour

So, so excited to finally be able to share the published version of our SCA1 snRNA-seq manusript, published today in @NeuroCellPress : https://t.co/NVf99kBWAL! A short thread below:
Very happy to be with the #MSTP students @UCIrvine as their student-invited speaker!
#mdphd is a long road but so rewarding & important for academic medicine to keep the physician-scientist pipeline strong 🤓
The first and main story of my PhD research is now available on @biorxivpreprint (!!!) Let me walk you through the main takeaways of my single-cell investigation of Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 7 (SCA7)

Science is done by humans.
As a PI a big part of the job is to mentor, sponsor & support those humans so they feel valued on good days & on bad ones.
That’s it. That’s the tweet.
Some people need to hear this (apparently).
We recently hit the 1-year anniversary of our partnership with @RetinaGlobal1 and the Orange County Eye Project, where medical students in our interest group have helped evaluate and treat patients in need of ophthalmic care. We hope to continue this awesome work in the future!
I am so happy to be working with the incredible group of virtual correspondents for the @PainResForum. Here is the link to my first blog post. https://t.co/YW8me3cY5u
with the people there. My heart was heavy with many tears, but I am excited to start my MD/PhD as my white coat ceremony happened last night. Thank you for the incredible mentorship. (2/2)
Aug 1st was my last day going to the @tawfiklab for a while. I’ve spent the last 3 years working with someone who took a chance on me and helped mentor me into the young scientist I am today. I am filled with emotions as I have had countless experiences in this lab and (1/2)
@mike_doc_B@YarCarLab Yes 🙌🏻! Thanks for mentioning 😊. The peripheral story to our central and how male and female are differing. Congrats on the paper glad it is out.
Beautiful and important study from @mike_doc_B team screaming that considering sex as a biological variable is critical in mechanistic pain studies. A must read for us all.

#JNeurosci: The contribution of myeloid cell TLR4 to sex-specific pain progression is controversial. @Nolan_A_Huck@TawfikLab et al. manipulated TLR4 based on location, timing and sex, and define a more nuanced contribution of TLR4 to chronic pain in mice.
