A final farewell to Forever Changes - my home for the last 6 years.
I've many happy memories but - more recently - some very painful ones so it's time for me to move on and for the new owners to make it a happy home again
A lovely day-trip to my old university city: York. I walked along the river and around the city walls, then watched some wacky street theatre - always plenty to see and do #York
Short trip today from Shipley to Bingley. A total of 11 locks but luckily most are manned so only had to get through the first 3 solo. Great to be back at the top of Bingley 5-rise again
When my husband died I didn't watch TV for a month and I'd lost the man who'd always made me laugh. Watching @SarahMillican75 on social media provided moments of light relief during a dark time. Last night I went to her live show which was excellent - very funny, as always πππ
My engine stopped in the middle of a 3 rise staircase (won't restart - probably fuel-related). Managed to haul it through the top lock but no road access for an engineer. Luckily, a couple of very kind and friendly boaters offered to tow me to civilization π
@eCommencal The lock hasn't changed but my boat no longer has a skipper at the tiller when going through locks. It's a big difference for me - and not just when I'm boating
@grannybuttons@MarkEllisBowes You're welcome to use the pics if you want as a cautionary tale. With hindsight I should've realised it might also be beneath the water and gone into neutral but I'd been caught by a strong gust of wind and was trying to get my boat back under control... so that went well π
@JohnnyM05000440 @CRTBoating I was told that is the official RYA line and they don't offer a solo course for that reason. I took the training anyway, as I wanted to feel more confident at the helm, and have sought unofficial advice from various boaters about how to handle locks and swing bridges solo
@grannybuttons@MarkEllisBowes We were keen to get that awful stuff well away from my boat and where it hopefully won't get anyone else's so the trophy photo didn't really show the true horror. And @MarkEllisBowes has nerves - rather than gloves - of steel!
First proper solo journey completed today: 5 miles, 7 broad locks and 4 swing bridges. I managed the first 4 locks (including a triple staircase) myself but was grateful for help with the last 3 locks and the bridges
