It’s so strange how states like CA and NY can increase their spending 2x-3x, achieve worse outcomes for the people, then somehow convince millions of people they just need more money.
@JamesSkoufis They end up like the HPD’s Tracey Towers where residents are facing a 30% city approved increase. They had a rent freeze for 6yrs. Doesn’t matter who owns. Math is math. Rent must cover costs.
@josemtur7@RobertKoza12 Your family’s story is like mine and so many others. These buildings were abandoned, didn’t have boilers. We sacrificed so much. And now people who don’t want to work as hard have painted us as the problem.
@ViralNewsNYC It's amusing when people without the slightest clue how something works comments with such confidence.

@bradhoylman Brad, not a single mention of property taxes or other costs going up? Is that because you own a coop & have more favorable tax rates than rental buildings? https://t.co/h3IvEoolTI
This year, the corporation council said the Pinnacle rents were too low to cover operating expenses
DEP said their costs are increasing, so w/s rates are going up 6%
HPD said operating costs are rising at Tracey Towers, so rents must go up 30%
In each case, the city is recognizing the fiscal reality that revenue must cover expenses. It's time to support rent-stabilized owners providing housing in the pre-1974 buildings
@erik_engquist Do tenants know a huge portion of their rent goes to the city for property taxes? I think not & the city perpetuates this ignorance so they can blame owners when the rent increases
@katiebrenzel@BrianKavanaghNY@FurmanCenterNYU He was being dishonest. Owners have had several meetings with him to discuss costs. Like every other elected he talked in circles & ended every meeting saying the rent is too high. 🙄 The rent is high cuz property taxes are high.
@TheMobileBroker@Jamie_LeFrak Owners are in the business of collecting rent. Even if a unit doesn’t need $100k in renovations it’s not worth renting if legal rent is below cost. Especially with added risk of getting a non payer you can’t evict.
@arpitrage@PhilSustainable You can’t be serious. These are units with rents below & way below cost. Speak to the owners with avge rents of $1100. But go ahead & add a stupid rent freeze to the mix
@LindaBRosenthal@NYCMayor@NYCHousing 1. A need is not the same as a right.
2. Regardless of whether you agree on 1, it’s not the landlord’s responsibility to unilaterally subsidize the housing costs of any individual.
@NYCMayor@nycpa@NYCHousing Who's the new Chief Restructuring Officer? A member of your Friends or Family circle? Was Chief Repair Officer too pedestrian of a title?
When will you thank @ericadamsfornyc for this ruling, since litigation started during his term?
@erik_engquist The blatant stupidity of these tenant reps is astounding. Like the last one who demanded to know why boilers weren’t replaced more often 🙄
@NYCHousing Why didn’t they request the tenant remove the flower pot they put on the fire escape? When is @NYCMayor@ZorhanMadmani going to inspect NYCHA? The housing he is responsible for.
