@Dr_Gingerballs@DKThomp That kind of investment could have helped build 100GW of Nuclear Reactors if there was appetite for it.
Kinda ironic now, how much power those AI and Data center technologies will need.
@HopfJames@Object_Zero_ Very true. I'd be worried about the lack of experience more than anything else.
I dont think we have enough skilled labor to pull it off in 15 years.
That said once the ball is rolling, experience grows and we could do some great things over 30 years, I'd bet.
@Object_Zero_@HopfJames I'm 100% for this but I'm unfamiliar with any realistic discussion to get this done.
From my understanding we would have needed to start yesterday and have at maybe 75-100 new sites selected and ready to begin the regulatory process.
2050 is just so close already.
@whatisnuclear@CSPopoff I remember 500 mrem during pregnancy, 5 mSv. No more than 100 mrem during any month.
I don't think that recommendation changed much in 10 years probably. Also I believe that is a solidly conservative limit.
@bespokeinvest The denominator has recently risen to all time high and interest rates were suppressed for 10+ years beforehand allowing many households to lock in substantially lower rates and total mortgage size.
This chart reflects that unique environment.
@IterIntellectus No one generates wealth in a vacuum.
Wealth generating individuals still benefit from a society of stability and get to build on a foundation of all human innovation that came before them.
Maintaining stability is the cost of doing business.
@dampedspring Nuclear reactors in space xan be tough due to the lack of good heat sink. All excess heat has to be radiated out since there is no medium to dump the heat too (like using water and transfer the heat to the atmosphere).
@dampedspring@zanewhiteley Deep space 1 (launched in 1998) used ion propulsion (throws electrons out the back). Ion propulsion has very high specific impulse (Very efficient thrust).
Electrical Power can come from solar arrays or radioisotope PU-238 decay (Matt Damon, the Martian)
@dampedspring How would they grease the economy up? Old hard money economies either had to find more hard money, debate the circulating currency, or they collapsed growth.
