After initially being mistaken for an accountant #everytime the best explanation I've given on what I do was to a food H&S man I met on the train. Told him I was like the health and safety of pensions. He said I must be popular at parties... #ofcourseIam#IAmAnActuary
Ten year progression of actual and forecast (2048) distribution of deaths in England and Wales. Actual moves slowly to the right as life expectancy gradually increases. Forecast moves more rapidly to the left as actuaries became less optimistic about the pace of improvement.
Great summary article on the "big picture" problems facing uk pensions today. #pensions did not escape unscathed in a world where so much #FakeNews exists and scammers are so talented. But how to fix this?
@ActuaryByDay Holy crap that's awesome. Oh! Also, at some point surely there needs to be an actuary meme that is " No Mr Bond, I expect you to die... with probability of 0.795, increasing as an exponential function of time".
There are some excellent villainous names in actuarial science aren't there? Ruin theory for example. Now I just imagine a small neat supervillian glaring upwards at a marvel superhero and going "I'll think you'll find the probabilities are actually in my favour..."

Happy #YorkshireDay to all the baby actuaries out there, all those obsessed with plants and cats and anyone sensible enough to live in or appreciate Yorkshire!
Average flexible pension payt per person Q2 2018 is up, but still below Q2 2017. Suggests more people are making use of pension flexibility but not withdrawing vast amounts. Need finer detail to say whether this trend is worrying or now just part of normal life.
I think what the verve really wanted to sing was "When your data checks don't work, and your changes make it worse, but I know I'll see <1% again". They were just worried popular culture wouldn't accept them for the maths nerds they are... #maths#pensions#babyactuary
Cannae wait to read the CMA provisional findings (7am Wednesday morning) - industry seems to think extreme measures (carving up Big 3) are off the table, but could still be a pivotal moment for the pensions industry
