While FSD is game changer, it’s not there yet without a human in specific situations. For example, I can not get inside my gated community without disconnecting fsd, it always tries to get through the visitor entrance instead of members. Also, I cant make it go inside my garage, always wants to park outside. I have to take control on those two situations every time I use it. I imagine other people have different issues. Until those small details are solved, I wouldn’t buy a fully AI driven Tesla.
They are not designed to return to Earth. But LEO is an option. They somehow will need to restock then with cargo if they want to reuse them. And it makes sense doing that in LEO. Otherwise they need to refuel both the tanker and the cargo starship to be able to reach NRHO. Better just do that for the HLS.
@letMEkipU@Erdayastronaut No, the HLS is also the cargo variant for moon landings. That is why they have the big elevator and airlock. Probably the first will not be reused. But in the future, if they want to reuse them, they will need to restock them with cargo somehow without landing on earth.
20,000 km is the longest a ballistic missile needs to travel on earth, as that is the longest range target for them. If the target exceeds 20k, it means you can shoot the other way around at less than 20k. If this missiles exceeds 35k, then it can travel at lower altitudes compensating for increased drag to reduce detection, or enter orbit to then deorbit an strike from any vector. This last would complicate systems set to defend from an specific direction like the GBI missiles.

@dr_ericberg Imagine saying all of these and think we can actually manage. We follow a recommendation only to find out a few years down the road that we should not have done it that way. Always changing, always evolving, and always becoming more and more complicated. It’s really frustrating!
@wholemars@elonmusk Tesla need to explain the speed limits on each mode. I no longer trust the car to respect them and no longer go above standard. That is my main issue with v14.
