@AmDiabetesAssn@novonordisk Capping insulin costs decreases the strain placed on hospitals caring for patients with uncontrolled DM. Insulin prices in the US are 10x higher than any other developing country, we need to address this disparity in our nation! #nurs638#capinsulin
@dolanbl8 This was a great reading. American politics is heavily polarized today and this article highlighted this issue as it related to the passage/blockage of legislation.
My favorite reading for this semester was Dysfunctional Politics in the US: Origins & Consequences by James Pfiffner. I really appreciate this perspective & agree that American politics is dysfunctional due to the inability to come together and agree on legislature. #nurs638
(1/3) @DrKimSue I was assigned your novel Getting Wrecked for my Health Policy class. I really enjoyed what the text brought light; a situation that ravages our country in an uncontrollable way. I marveled in the real life accounts, and learned so #nurs638
"Getting Wrecked" illustrated the lives of incarcerated women fighting to improve their lives while facing violence, gender inequality, and the opioid epidemic. It highlights the cracks within the prison infrastructure as it relates to punishment and treatment #nurs638
Politicians, lawmakers, and media use frames to garner support and promote a certain interpretation of a controversial issue- Gun Control vs Gun Safety. These frames play a role in our attitudes and perspectives towards a variety of issues, including healthcare policies @Nurs621
@AAN_Nursing Legislators and government officials have the authority to enforce and make changes to policies for safe patient: nurse ratios. It decreases mortality rates of patients and increasing nursing retention. This should take priority in healthcare. #NURS638
We discovered challenges that face rural community older adults, like high cost of healthcare and medications, cause involuntary noncompliance with essential care. Let's bring the resources from the city to rural to help bridge this gap in care. @FriendsElderly@aercgh#nurs638
If terminal patients have the right to refuse treatment, shouldn’t they also have the right to die? Physician-assisted suicide gives patient’s autonomy, an end to suffering, and death with dignity. Lets start the conversation! @DeathwDignity@AmerMedicalAssn#nurs638
@SpeakerPelosi PrEP is preventative healthcare and saves lives. Denying coverage for PrEP will prolong the epidemic and further contribute to health inequity in the US. PrEP needs to be available to those who need it to promote health equity.

Today, a radical, Republican-appointed federal judge ruled that employers can deny coverage for PrEP: a drug proven to save lives from HIV/AIDS and a key strategy for ending the epidemic.
