Even though there has been a drive put a cap on prescription drug costs all over the country, many elderly, @AARP, in rural communities are still unable to afford life-saving prescriptions due to incredible costs @Merck, the Inflation Reduction Act can help with this! #nurs638
My favorite reading was by @pugleesa et al. "What Does Health Justice Look Like for People Returning from Incarceration". Authors explore how the lack of healthcare and social support upon release from prison can perpetuate recidivism and worsen health disparities #nurs638
@RNjbg @pugleesa Many of our readings discuss the lack of support given post incarceration, and I appreciated how this one looked specifically at how it worsens health disparities.
My favorite reading for this semester was Dysfunctional Politics in the US: Origins & Consequences by James Pfiffner. I really appreciate this perspective & agree that American politics is dysfunctional due to the inability to come together and agree on legislature. #nurs638
In an article from @equityhealthj, they use the IBPA Framework to analyze multiple case studies that assess different inequalities, using descriptive and transformative questions, and come up with creative ways of assessing, evaluating, and fixing these inequalities. #nurs638
Thanks to @Nurs621, I have learned so much about how policy and politics are essential in promoting changes in health, not just at a federal level, but in communities as well. I feel that can bring this new perspective with me and apply it as I advance my career. #nurs638

Countless studies have shown that increasing the number of patients a nurse has is directly correlated with increase mortality of patients, length of stay/cost, and medication errors. Why is safe nurse ratios not implemented to save lives? @AAN_Nursing@IHAhospitals#nurs638
We discovered challenges that face rural community older adults, like high cost of healthcare and medications, cause involuntary noncompliance with essential care. Let's bring the resources from the city to rural to help bridge this gap in care. @FriendsElderly@aercgh#nurs638
@timkaine#nurs638 This is so necessary for our vulnerable seniors, insulin costs about 10 x more in the US than in other developed countries, increases based on the will of those taking advantage of the market. Seniors need the protection of this Act to survive.
