@CPicketts A legend and the greatest mentor an agronomist could ask for. We still speak of him often as we walk fields. “Beautiful morning” and always replying “tremendous” when asked how he was today.. those are some of the memories I hold closest and I miss our chats. RIP dear friend.

Looking at rust/russeting phyto trials with in season micronutrient applications. Copper always looks terrifying until you compare it with the untreated check. Golden Delicious loves russeting even without our interventions! No major differences seen between treatments.
@barideout In the case of frost: reproductive tissues have been damaged so B would not likely help. Zn maybe? Some in NY have suggested that Promalin may help. It may be that the 6BA and GA mimic some of the endogenous PGRs missing with the lack of seeds. Maybe @NufarmCA have data on that?
Lopsided apple. Small cells on one side, elongated cells on the other. Why the difference? Poor pollination/ no seed development on half the fruit. The half with no seed development was a weaker sink and had lower levels of PGRs leading to half the fruit being underdeveloped.
@barideout Low OM, Sandy soil, slightly acidic soils, smaller less expansive dwarf rootstock: all these and more can lead to low B conditions. Very easy to amend with a combination of soil and foliar applied B. Luckily apples can mobilize B in the phloem so they can recycle a fair amount.
@barideout Great question: 1) Respect and encourage natural pollinators 2) Bring in bumble/honeybees 3) Plant a diversity of varieties which overlap in flower timing 4) Maintain adequate boron levels to ensure proper pollen tube development. As most things in Ag there is no silver bullet.
