Excellent point for all the #waroncars crowd. Without cars, jobs would be lost in many industries including parts sales and distribution, valet attendants, vehicle manufacturing, auto insurance, paramedics, used car salespeople, ER physicians, funeral directors/morticians, etc.
Nice work, @TxDOT! Happy to report that we're doing the same thing on Ohio highways โ and definitely not buying into this whole @AmtrakConnects idea of funding train trips between places.
"The social costs of these fatality messages are large: Back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest that this campaign causes an additional 2600 crashes and 16 fatalities per year in Texas alone, with a social cost of $377 million per year."
Regardless of whether it's inmate labor or not, just imagine how many new lane miles we could build with that money! We wouldn't want to waste it on maintaining *existing* roadways, or heaven forbid โ transit!
Even if you feel like the vision was somehow watered down, everyone can agree that motorists have spectacular landscaping to enjoy while bypassing Cleveland neighborhoods.

What are you taking about? The Lakefront West is clearly one of our nation's most successful six-lane limited access highway to six-lane limited access boulevard conversion projects.

Remember when the bold vision for the Shoreway got watered-down, errโฆโฆ.greased by palms into what we have now? @DetroitShoreway @ohiocitytweets Was it a $100,000,000 fail?
How else are people going to get there? Park in a different lot and walk a couple blocks? Bike or use @SanduskyTransit to get there from another part of town?
Leave it to the @cityofsandusky to destroy Downtown Sandusky by ruining Jackson Street Pier. 283 park spots, nuked down to 88. One of the busiest parking areas in the city and they "improved it" for a "green space" that is basically unusable for all the bird shit that fills it.
Maybe if there's enough pedestrian traffic to merit no less than 3 no pedestrian signs on a street separating @COTABus and @GreyhoundBus stops @ODOT_Columbus should put a crosswalk here instead? @columbusalleys @ODOT_Fakewide
I can't wait to take that route from Columbus to Cleveland oh wait there is NO REASON TO EVER DO THAT. And we've been building a highway across West Virginia for 30 years now; that ATL-BNA spur maybe would get finished in my grandkids' lifetime.
@MobileHarv Driving is nothing to fear! With all the road safety improvements and developing vehicular technology, driving in Ohio only gets safer with every passing day. #TowardZeroDeaths
