#mpox remains a public health emergency of international concern
The announcement follows the third meeting of the IHR Emergency Committee regarding the upsurge of mpox. The Committee advised the Director-General @DrTedros to extend the public health emergency of international concern, based on the continuing rise in numbers and geographic spread, the violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo—which hampers the response— as well as a lack of funding to implement the response plan.
The Director-General concurred with the Committee’s advice.

Today, civil society and communities working in Kenya’s health sector express grave concern about the 90-day suspension of U.S foreign aid. The abrupt decision to halt funding undermines progress made so far, betrays trust built over the years.
Without US foreign aid, projections show by 2029:
✔️ 8.7 million people newly infected with HIV
✔️ 6.3 million AIDS-related deaths
✔️ an additional 3.4 million children made orphans

"If PEPFAR (US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) wasn't authorized between 2025 and 2029 and other resources were not found for the HIV response, there would be a 400% increase in AIDS deaths. That's 6.3 million people." - @SteglingC, @UNAIDS
"The abrupt stop is not responsible. Lives are at risk.” - @S0langeBaptiste on the foreign aid freeze.
This situation threatens to reverse decades of progress in the global HIV/AIDS response.

.@WHO expresses deep concern about the implications of the United States government’s immediate funding pause for #HIV programmes in low- and middle-income countries. These programmes provide access to life-saving HIV therapy to more than 30 million people worldwide.
This funding halt can put people living with HIV at immediate increased risk of illness and death and undermine efforts to prevent transmission in communities and countries.
Such measures, if prolonged, could lead to rises in new infections and deaths, reversing decades of progress and potentially taking the world back to the 1980s and 1990s when millions died of HIV every year globally, including many in the USA.
We call on the US government to enable additional exemptions to ensure the delivery of lifesaving HIV treatment and care: https://t.co/Ljq8foAoxz

🔴 La CNOPS a réalisé un benchmark sur les diférences de prix enregistrés entre le Maroc, la Belgique et la France pour certains médicaments. Elle révèle des écarts de prix largement en défaveur des Marocains.

#Lenacapavir has the potential to transform HIV prevention - but only if it is made truly accessible to everyone who needs it, without restrictions and exclusions.
