“On August 19, 2026, our community suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of 23-year-old Tucson Police Department recruit Carlos Ramirez, a proud member of Recruit Class 26-1. Carlos was just days away from graduating from the police academy and beginning a career dedicated to serving the Tucson community.

Carlos was tragically killed in a shooting at his home. His fiancée, Aaliyah, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department Corrections Officer, was also injured. Aaliyah is currently recovering from her injuries, and their unborn child is safe. Now, Aaliyah and their family are facing the unimaginable loss of Carlos while navigating an incredibly difficult and uncertain time.

Carlos is survived by his parents, his brother, his fiancée, their two young children, and an unborn child.

As a community, we want to come together to support the Ramirez family and help ease the financial burdens they now face. Donations will assist with unexpected expenses, medical costs, household bills, childcare, and other immediate needs as they navigate this devastating tragedy.

The suspect's vehicle is a maroon in color 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle model FLHXS bearing Arizona plate D4A656.
The Pima County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in locating Alex James Barnett, who is wanted for homicide. Barnett is bald with distinctive arm tattoos and is considered armed and dangerous. Last seen wearing a red shirt and black leather vest, riding a maroon 2020 Harley-Davidson FLHXS motorcycle, AZ plate DA466. Do not approach. Call 911.

Dear @SavannahGuthrie & Guthrie Family,

I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. My first experience with the horror of a Tucson kidnapping came in 1985 when a little girl from my neighborhood, Zosha Lee Pickett, disappeared after being abducted near Dodge Boulevard.

The entire city searched for her. Families prayed. Volunteers looked everywhere, hoping for a miracle.

I was one of two boys who ultimately found Zosha. She was killed by a Tucson criminal. She was discovered inside an abandoned car behind a Wienerschnitzel. It is something I have never forgotten. No child should ever have to endure that, and no family should have to experience that kind of heartbreak.

For years, there were no answers. Then, about seven years later, advances in DNA technology helped solve the case. The man responsible was identified, prosecuted by the Pima County Attorney’s Office, and faced the death penalty. I had to testify at his trial.

That experience changed my life forever.

It taught me that victims deserve to be remembered, families deserve answers, and communities should never stop seeking justice. It is one of the reasons I advocate for victims and their families.

Today, that same advocacy drives me to continue covering cases involving people like Nancy Guthrie, Hollie Dasso, and many others whose stories deserve to be heard. I know what it is like to watch a community search for answers. And Zosha’s family and community know how important it is that someone continues to speak their names.

I will never stop advocating for Zosha, Nancy, Hollie and more.

I fight for Zosha. I fight for the victims whose voices were taken from them. I fight for the families who grieve in the wake up every day without the answers they deserve.

And I will continue to stand beside those searching for truth, because every victim matters, every family deserves hope, and justice is always worth fighting for. #JusticeForVictims
