The initiative is a component of #ELEVATE Project funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), through @UNmigration and implemented by the @OSDAFRIK
This initiative is expected to transform the local economy by creating meaningful employment for youth. The anticipated long-term impacts include reduced youth involvement in conflict and prevention of radicalisation into violent extremism and illegal migration.
Beyond clean energy, this initiative is expected to create meaningful employment for youth, reduce involvement in conflict related activities, prevent radicalisation into violent extremism, and curb illegal migration (Tahrib) in the long run.
Today, 22nd June 2026, Mandera County Government officially handed over a 0.89 acre piece of land for the establishment of a briquette production plant, turning Prosopis Juliflora (Mathenge), long a menace to local farmers, into clean energy and sustainable jobs for youth.
Yesterday OSDA + @IOMKenya held a consultative meeting in Mandera on our KOICA-funded ELEVATE briquette project — turning invasive Prosopis trees into clean energy & livelihoods for 12 youth. Grateful to be a frontier innovator turning social problems into economic opportunity
At OSDA, ending hunger starts at the grassroots.
In Mandera, Kenya, we are supporting smallholder farmers with training, seedlings, and Climate Smart Agriculture to build food-secure communities.
Together with our partner @IOMKenya and farmers, lasting change is taking root.
OSDA and World Vision Kenya visited 5 communities in Mandera under the #ELEVATEAfrica Project.
We met women, youth, PWDs, and migrants turning small business support into jobs, income, and resilience.
13 SMEs supported. 25+ jobs expected.

With support from the @EUinKenya , a five-day cross-border technical learning and knowledge exchange mission was successfully conducted by @IOMKenya , @iom_somalia , @IGADsecretariat , and Organization for Social Development in Africa.
The mission brought together government representatives, technical experts, and community members from both Kenya and Somalia to share best practices, strengthen coordination, and promote community-driven solutions across the Mandera–Beled Hawa border corridor.

On 21st March 2026, OSDA joined key partners in the official flag-off of 197 metric tons of maize seed consignment aimed at supporting drought-affected communities in Mandera County.
This vital support, generously donated by 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 in collaboration with the 𝗨𝗣𝗦 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, includes both treated and untreated maize seeds to help restore livelihoods and strengthen food security.
The distribution is being carried out by @IOMKenya in partnership with the Mandera County Government, who have played a key role in identifying beneficiaries and coordinating efforts to ensure the support reaches the most vulnerable communities.
Initiatives like this are a crucial step toward building resilience and empowering communities to recover and thrive despite ongoing climate challenges.
Many people turn on a tap without thinking twice. 💧
But for many women and children in remote parts of Northern Kenya, water still means long walks, heavy containers, and hours spent each day just to meet a basic household need.
Day after day.
At @OSDAFRIK , we are not standing by , we are on the ground working to change that reality. By installing solar-powered boreholes and water infrastructure, we are helping communities access clean, reliable water in a way that is sustainable, durable, and built to serve them for years to come.
Because access to water should not mean exhaustion, lost time, or missed opportunities.

Looking back at a proud moment we recently had in Ires Kinto, Mandera County…
What used to be long, exhausting treks for water under the blazing sun is now a thing of the past. Thanks to Mandera County Government drilling the borehole and @OSDAFRIK equipping it with funding from @EUinKenya via @IOMKenya , we delivered a solar-powered borehole ; clean, reliable and built to last with almost no maintenance.
Still flowing strong:
✅ 50m³ masonry tank
✅ Community water kiosk
✅ Livestock troughs
✅ Secure solar fencing
This durable solution advances 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟲 (𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿), 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟳 (𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆), supports 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟮 (𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿) via healthier livestock and aligns with 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟭𝟯 (𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻).
Kids study instead of fetching water. Families thrive. Hope endures. Grateful to our partners for lasting impact.
