Pakistan’s current health spending per person in 2021–22 was only:

PKR 8,526 per year
= about PKR 710 per month
= about PKR 24 per day

Now ask honestly:

Can Rs 24 per day cover medicines, beds, equipment, staff, emergency care and doctors?

No.

This is why hospitals are overloaded and doctors are expected to cover system failure with sacrifice.

You cannot run healthcare on Rs 24 per person per day.

A pay raise for doctors is not charity.

It is health-system protection.

Minimum wage in Punjab is Rs40,000/month for 8-hour duty, Rs192/hour.

Many young doctors earn around Rs65,000–70,000/month after MBBS, house job, night duties, emergency calls and 80–100 hour weeks.

At 100 hours/week:

Rs70,000/month doctor ≈ Rs161/hour
Minimum-wage worker ≈ Rs192/hour

This means a doctor can be earning less per hour than minimum wage.

Fair pay means:

• doctors stay
• wards remain staffed
• patients wait less
• public hospitals become stronger

Pakistan cannot build a strong healthcare system by underpaying the people who run it day and night.

Respect doctors.
Retain doctors.
Protect patients.

1 month salary of a doctor abroad

1 full year salary of a Pakistani house officer

Pakistan house officer:
PKR 69,600/month
= PKR 835,200/year

UK/Australia basic monthly doctor pay, when converted to PKR, can cross this yearly amount.

This is not fair pay.
This is talent export.

The system has changed, OPD hours, Duty hours has increased while the pay remains the same.
