@chaotictransfem I am certain I could manufacture meeting a lot of the same people I am friends with now. I might be able to prevent a few of them from falling apart the way they did.
I might even be able to prevent my mom from dying.
And I'd be so rich I could support everyone I care about.
@matthew_loftus Growing up watching early YouTube and new grounds, especially people like PsychicPebbles and OneyG, this might sound wild to some, but for me it's gotta be Smiling Friends.
2016 was the year ppl I know and randos I speak to online all roughly place when our world had some cataclysmic conjunction of the spheres with the clown-world hell dimension.
The world had STARTED going mad before 2016, but 2016 was the point where it HAD gone certifiably mad.
I canโt explain it, but it is an immutable fact to people aged 25-35 all seemingly agree that 2016 was the perfect year, and 2016 was the perfect summer.
Twitter autoplay did a smash cut from someones murrsuit video, to a pig carcass being rapidly sawn in half in a Chinese robotic slaughterhouse.
Good night.
@coyote_vaquero Dude we're gonna be subject to 5-10 years of shit trying and failing to imitate Smiling Friends because they entirely misunderstood the youtube/new grounds golden era millennial humor that it's built on.
@r3x_rants@KikonineArt And those are all perfectly fine things imo. These are spaces made by adults, intended for an attendance of adults.
There's nothing wrong with Mayhem Festival, rowdy as it may be.
But You wouldn't take a 12 year old, let alone let a group of them go by themselves.
@r3x_rants@KikonineArt Everyone zeroes-in on the sexual aspects of cons when this topic comes up, probably because it's a source of debate in general.
But in my experience, while it's certainly relevant, it's not the main factor. Vulgarity, alcohol, drugs, general rowdiness all make cons 18+ spaces.
@KikonineArt As a minor, I was involved in the fandom online. It was perfectly fine for me, and frankly I wasn't interested in going to cons nor did I think I ought to.
I started going in my early 20s, and I can say with certitude that there was zero reasons for me to be at a con as a minor.
