The Pedal and Break: Start in a staggered stance, chest over toes. Backpedal for 10 yards keeping your pad level low (don't stand up tall). On a whistle, "plant" your back foot and drive forward at a 45-degree angle.
The W-Drill: Backpedal 5 yards, angle drive forward 5 yards, backpedal 5 yards, and so on. This mimics the constant adjustments youโll make while tracking a receiver.
Open the Gate (Hip Flips): Backpedal straight, then "flip" your hips to run sideways (keeping your eyes on the "QB"), then flip back to the other side. Fluid hips are the difference between a completion and an interception.
