Excited to share our most recent pre-print on the role of mycoviruses in triggering the antifungal MAVS-dependent interferon response and their role in regulating chronic allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) disease severity.

Recently published work in our lab identified keratinocyte VISTA as an epidermal checkpoint that restrains skin type I IFN response and UV light-induced injury. #lupus #photosensitivity @ZacharyTPeters @JCI_insight @GeiselMed @MCBDartmouth https://t.co/Qg6d9h3bFu

Our new studies show that neutrophils increase in the urine of #lupus patients with active skin disease, in LN kidneys, and after skin exposure to UV, promoting renal tissue remodeling. @J_Immunol @andreafaa

We previously showed that APS-1/APECED features excess IFNg responses that can be targeted therapeutically (Oikonomou NEJM 2024). We now extend this to show that early JAK inhibition can intercept the development of irreversible autoimmune endocrinopathies

Congratulations to my PhD student, @abigailpmcgee, who was awarded her F31 today looking the role of MAVS in regulating mitochondrial health and cell survival.

Thrilled to share my second postdoc paper, out today in @SciImmunology. We continued dissecting the host response to fungal pathogens in the lung and uncovered another spatial circuit that shapes macrophage function and pathogen persistence.

A new PAMP, a new innate immunity principle and a new preclinical application. I am so pleased to share our study on STING activation mechanisms in health and disease. Led by the fantastic Stephanie Ragland, follow the summary below for all we learned.

Our work with @andolive85’s lab is now live @J_Immunol in which we demonstrate alveolar macrophage are potent inducers of the type I interferon response

[The Journal of Immunology @J_Immunol]

A #CuttingEdge article suggests TGFβ modulates the metabolic networks and immune signaling cascades of alveolar macrophages to control inflammatory pathways and that the role of type I IFNs is a key initial response to invading pathogens in the lungs. https://t.co/um4XXAqFRN.

Championship Day! Boys lax heads to Burlington to face #1 Harwood in a 6:00 game at Virtue Field (UVM). Tickets available on GoFan or at the gate. Fan bus departs at 4:15 from HHS. Might want to bring some rain gear... #GoCanes!!!

👉 HIF activity prevents proper macrophage maturation
Deleting VHL → stabilizes HIFs → immature AM phenotype
Only removing BOTH HIF-1α + HIF-2α fully restores identity
👉 HIF signaling is the dominant driver downstream of VHL

#InterferonPower! #InflammasomePower! 💥With @kjena21 &co we show @NatImmunol that our fungal adjuvant #Mannadjuvant, via IL1 & IFNs, prolongs & potentiates protection of #mRNA #vaccines, broadening it to new variants & overcoming antigenic imprinting! 👉 https://t.co/G5BxPDMRKW
