📍 1982-Renamed to Regional Centre for Services in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (RCSSMRS) to reflect expanded focus including Remote Sensing.
🏢 By June 1985, the Centre moved to its permanent home in Kasarani, Nairobi.
📍 1983- Canada through International Development Research Centre (IDRC) supported cartography programmes and as a result of that a Department of Cartography was established-boosting capacity in mapping and spatial data.
📍 1984-🇫🇷 France (French Technical Assistance) backed the Remote Sensing Department.
🛰️ Enabled purchase of SPOT satellite imagery and training in satellite image interpretation.

📍 RCMRD at 50!
📍The journey began in 1963, during the first meeting of the United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Africa.
📍It was recognized that surveying and mapping services were key for natural resource inventory & development, and specialized institutions needed to be established to provide these services to African countries
📍This vision took shape in September 1974, when-through the initiative of @ECA_OFFICIAL and at the invitation of the Government of Kenya-a meeting in Nairobi led to an agreement to establish at least one Centre to provide such services. An agreement was reached to locate the Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

Surveyors play a crucial role in land management, and infrastructure planning.
