Ahead of Ethiopia's 7th General Election, Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe (@SpeciosaW), Head of the #IGAD Election Observation Mission, met with H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of the Republic of Kenya and Head of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM).
The meeting between the two Heads of Mission provided an opportunity to exchange pre-election observations, discuss observer deployment plans, and reaffirm their mutual commitment to supporting peaceful, credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes in Ethiopia.

IGAD Steps Up Election Observation Across Ethiopia
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Election Observation Mission has deployed field observers across Ethiopia as the country prepares to hold its 7th General Election on June 1.
The mission said teams are operating in assigned districts nationwide, meeting local officials, civil society representatives and other stakeholders to assess electoral preparedness, inclusivity and the overall voting environment ahead of polling day.
Led by Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe (@SpeciosaW), the mission is gathering real-time information from communities across the country to evaluate conditions on the ground before voting begins.
The findings will contribute to IGAD’s post-election assessment of the polls, which are being closely watched as Ethiopia conducts its first nationwide election since the formal end of the Tigray conflict.
Do you know the fears Parliament had when passing the Uganda Citizenship and Immigration Control (Amendment) Act, 2009 (Act 5 of 2009)?
Would dual citizenship divide loyalty? Enable fugitives to evade justice? Allow foreigners to acquire land? Open the door to abuse of public office?
Read the Hansard of 14 May 2009 on ULII and discover who said what, the concerns raised, and how Parliament ultimately resolved them.

Congratulations my brother @adoniaayebare on your appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda.
IGAD values your friendship, leadership, and steadfast support, including your role in strengthening our presence and engagement in New York.
I look forward to working with you through the IGAD Council of Ministers to advance peace, regional integration, and shared prosperity for the benefit of our people.

A MEMORABLE HANDOVER:
From Sec. Legal Affairs @NYCofug to the 12th August House!
Today, I officially handed over the office of Secretary for Legal Affairs at the National Youth Executive - Committee.
After 5 remarkable years (2021–2026), I pass the baton to a new team to take this Council to greater heights.
These past 5 years have been more than just a title; they have been a forum that has shaped me. Through this role, I’ve had the privilege of shaping Uganda’s youth Agend & influencing policies that impact our daily lives.
That experience has prepared me, by God’s grace, for the next calling: National Female MP, 2026–2031.👌
As I step into the 12th August House of Uganda, I carry every lesson, every battle, & every win from the National Youth Council.
What will sustain my leadership is not the title, but the passion to serve young people. Teamwork remains fundamental & I will take that spirit to Parliament.
TO THE NEW TEAM: lead with heart. To the youth of Uganda: I’m not leaving you, I’m going to fight for you on a bigger floor, @Parliament_Ug . 🇺🇬

Honored to attend as Guest of Honor the Swearing-In of the @NYCofuganda today. With over 75% of Uganda under 35, the future is young. I urged the new leaders to lead with integrity, stay accountable to the young people and focus on driving social-economic transformation.
Sheebah Karungi has revealed that she has no problem being wife number four — or even number 10 — in a marriage.
“As long as you explain it to me and I visit my co-wives and they are nice. I’m not even joking. I can be number four. I can even be number 10 because it’s not about romance for me.”
Strengthening Climate Preparedness for Resilient Food Systems
IGAD, through @ICPAC_IGAD and in partnership with @AGRA_Africa, is strengthening the preparedness of African countries and regional institutions to plan and implement climate change solutions.
The meeting focused on building capacity, advancing practical climate action, and supporting countries to turn climate priorities into resilient food systems and sustainable development outcomes.

At this high level meeting, I had the opportunity to present the #IGAD Flagship Action on the Protocols on Free Movement of Persons and Transhumance in the IGAD Region as a Durable Solution to Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration of our citizens in the wake of natural disasters & pursuit of #peace, #security and prosperity thru residence for #trade & access to social services.
Grateful to have participated in a powerful workshop with ICGLR. Learned that lasting peace begins with listening, empathy, and inclusive conversations. Ready to apply these skills to strengthen communities and resolve conflicts constructively.#peace#conflictresolution
