@oide_Ireland In 1926 global CO₂ levels were around 305 parts per million. Today they exceed 425 ppm the highest in human history, and a core message Attenborough has championed to millions worldwide. 🌡️
🎉 Celebrating Sir David Attenborough who turns 100 today. The man, the myth, the legend, who brings biomes, ecosystems, climate zones & ocean currents to life on our screens. 📺
He made the whole world our classroom. 🌏
Happy Birthday, Sir David @oide_Ireland
@oide_Ireland An estimated 91% of ocean species have yet to be discovered, described and catalogued. Even after a century of Blue Planet and ocean documentaries, the seas remain largely unknown which Attenborough himself has called one of the great remaining frontiers of geography. 🐋
Half of all global forest loss has occurred in the last century alone ,almost exactly Attenborough's lifetime. Since 1990 alone, the world has lost around 180 million hectares of forest, with tropical areas hit hardest. 🌳🌳
When David Attenborough was born on 8 May 1926, the world population was around 1.9 billion people. Today it stands at over 8.3 billion, meaning the planet's human population has more than quadrupled in his lifetime.
40 years ago today, Chernobyl changed the world forever. The 1986 disaster reshaped landscapes, displaced communities & sparked a global conversation about nuclear energy that continues today. A powerful case study for every geography classroom. @Oide_Ireland@Oide_CASD
It's National Richter Scale Day. Today we mark the 125th birthday of Charles F. Richter , the scientist who gave us a way to measure Earth's mightiest moments. His legacy? Still making waves.
