@ClayTravis@PabloTorre "Would you like to talk to my mom and dad about all our family trips to the Cheesecake Factory?"
We used to build shit in this country.
90s leftists still have plenty of important things to say, but whenever they start honking off about how maybe the right is ready to cooperate you've gotta just pat them on the head and escort them back to the nurse's station
@aarondmiller2 Setting side the fact you just described apartheid in different terms, the 5M Palestinians who live under Israeli sovereignty and have for decades and will indefinitely exist as well. But so long as hacks like you can point to a nonexistent “peace process” they somehow dont count
SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

usually kind of blithe about old actors dying but i kind of regard captain picard as the closest humanity has ever come to a portrayal of The Ideal Person
Patrick Stewart's entire body of work, but as Picard in particular, is something that connects the person I am today with who I was as a kid. It collapses time for me. I still have the same awe and fascination with his performance and belief that it represents the best of us.
A post-election note for Democrats
The first one of you that says we need to build bridges, reach across the aisle and work with Republicans gets thrown into the fucking sun. Prosecute the criminal pedophiles destroying our country or get the hell out of the way.
Meanwhile in reality, goobers like the poster and the blue check brigade of chucklefucks in his replies were pissing and shitting themselves back then, just like they are now. The perfect grift of perpetual aggrievement.

25 years ago, Seattle seemed like the city of the future. I guess the whole PNW peaked around then. People loved it, they wouldn’t shut up about it. I loved going up there, anywhere from Victoria/Vancouver to Portland. What a choice to make, to wreck that whole beautiful region.
"We, who resigned from our positions, call on candidates for the 2028 Presidential Nomination to commit to not hire any administration official directly responsible for enabling Israel’s military actions in Gaza."

"You see, there's no racism or apartheid in Israel: the Arab parties almost got 20 percent of the vote."
Great, then surely they will be invited to help govern their own country?
"Oh, no absolutely not."
