127.0.0.1 is the IP address known as localhost. It always points back to your own machine. No matter where you are in the world or what network you’re on, 127.0.0.1 means “this computer, right here.”
When developers test websites, APIs, or servers, they usually run them on 127.0.0.1 first. It’s a safe, isolated environment where nothing is exposed to the internet and nothing external can interfere. If it works on localhost, then you can think about letting others see it.
So the phrase “There is no place like 127.0.0.1” is a nerdy spin on “There’s no place like home.” For developers and engineers, localhost is home. It’s where things are predictable, controlled, and forgiving. You can break things, restart them, and try again without consequences.
The Eastleigh (Nairobi) real estate market makes no sense.
There are so many residential towers under construction, but a lot of them stopped midway cause the developers (mostly Somalis) ran out of money. I can safely estimate 1 in 5 is abandoned half way with low chance of completion.
Why? Because buyers suddenly vanished which caused a huge cash crunch. The local market can’t afford these insane prices. We’re talking $70,000 to $90,000 for 3-4 bedroom apartments in Eastleigh where the rent is less than $500 a month.
My personal assessment is that developers got greedy and went full Ponzi scheme. Using new investor money to complete previous projects. It’s all paper profits and moonshots until new money stops coming in. Which it has.
And it looks like everyone and their mama became a real estate developer. So many badly built towers, poorly planned estates, shady business practices, and bubble talking points.
They build these towers edge to edge on every plot, attaching independent towers to each other. Imagine paying $80,000 for a unit with a side balcony but the neighboring tower goes up and blocks it all. You can get sunlight and air only from the side facing the road. Horrible planning.
Let’s play a game: guess where each building starts and ends.
Unless you log into this app, you wouldn't know that today in Kenya, it is Jamhuri Day (Independence Day).
On 12th December 1963, Kenya gained complete independence from the Imperial British East Africa Company, a private British company that had dominated and exploited Kenya on behalf of England.
12th December 1963 was a day of honour, pride and dignity for all Kenyans,
But today, 12th December 2025,
There are no national flags draped in front of shops and commercial buildings as an indication of self-pride
Government buildings don't even have our national flags as a sign of honour to our freedom fighters.
County Government buildings are deserted with no sign of national celebration as a manifestation of dignity for devolution.
Activities are proceeding as usual, except for government offices, which remain closed.
We have fallen as a nation.
Our patriotism has been eroded by political bickering, greed and implementation of predatory policies that take away our pride and dignity as a people.
Citizens see no reason to celebrate the dream of our forefathers because that dream has been defiled.
Poverty has escalated.
Ignorance has tripled.
Diseases are draining every family.
Our education system has deflated our patriotism.
Our healthcare system has inflamed our collective consciousness.
Our agriculture has been taken over by foreign buccaneers.
Our transport system has become a highway for laundering proceeds of Eurobond and odious loans.
Our economy no longer serves the citizens, but it serves foreign investors.
On 12th December 1963, we regained political independence, but we surrendered our economic sovereignty.
Unless we come together as a nation and say "enough is enough", every Jamhuri day will be another passing glance, with nothing to celebrate, but memories of black and white archived photos of 12th December, 1963.
