In Kisii culture once you’re divorced with your husband , dowry is returned by the girls parents.Just as it the marked the official beginning of a customary marriage, the return of the dowry marks its legal and social end.

It also means the lady can be married again,if it’s not returned and unfortunately she dies ,traditionally and culturally she’s still married to the man and her body will be taken to the man’s side coz she’s still considered his “wife.”
