@shrikanth_krish @entropied I think the real reasons are practical. I learnt Hindi in the South. I’ve already forgotten most of it because I never get to use it. Ultimately, the cost bs benefit ratio doesn’t work out. Sanskrit however has given me access to Indian history.

@entropied Because there is a monetary incentive to learn English via career opportunities, global connectivity. But Hindi is a quasi-Arabic language that doesn’t provide any economic value. Even if you learn Hindi in the South, it’s forgotten because no one speaks it. Sanskrit all the way!

@ilzamophobe @BellamSwathi @indian_data @prakashraaj Refusing to learn Hindi isn’t bigotry. Hindi has so much Persian in it. My ancestors died precisely to prevent their descendants from having to learn Persian. However hating Hindi speakers is bigotry.

@BellamSwathi @prakashraaj There is an element of resentment that’s very real where many North Indians settled in the south have not made an effort to learn the local langauge and act like it’s the locals who should speak Hindi. I’ve seen Dravidians use Hindi to stoke hate too. Both sides are the problem
