The finality of death is genuinely terrifying. Not because we know it will happen, but because we have absolutely no idea when. You can wake up tomorrow morning, make plans for next year, save money for something you have always wanted, start building a life you imagine yourself enjoying years from now, completely unaware that you may never get to see any of it.
That is the part that haunts me. Somewhere, someone is making a five-year plan today, booking a trip, building a house, falling in love, saving for retirement, or promising someone they will see them tomorrow, without knowing they have already lived their final ordinary day. They don't know it, and nobody around them knows it either.
We live as though tomorrow is an entitlement, when in reality, tomorrow is only a possibility. Death doesn't care about your plans, your age, your ambitions, your unfinished business or how much more you still wanted to accomplish. It can come in the middle of a sentence, a journey, a celebration, or an ordinary day when you had absolutely no idea it would be your last.
One day, you will have your last conversation, your last laugh, your last meal, your last journey home. And the most frightening thing is that you will probably not know which one is the last. Life doesn't announce when it is about to end. It simply stops, and everything you thought you still had time for becomes permanently unfinished.
@Dr_Chris_Twine When the message shifts towards “respect the protocol” as an absolute rule, there is a real risk: training defensive doctors rather than clinically sound ones.
