Spent the day listening to the fantastic @OneSweetDreamDi episode on John's 1971 interview at the St Regis Hotel in NYC.
In the interview, when discussing Paul's phone call to him in the spring of 1970, John says:
Well, Paul rang me up. He didn't actually tell me he'd split. He said he was putting out an album...
I think John really slipped up here with "he didn't actually tell me he'd split." According to John's (usual) narrative, it'd be impossible for Paul to split because John had already left Paul!
With his choice of words here, I think John accidentally revealed who left whom.
Jane, Linda, Maggie, Francie... My exploration of 1968 delved into gossips. However, considering Paul McCartney's romantic entanglements are intricately linked with his music, it was an inevitable path. Here's a thread on how his love stories unfolded during that year. 1/9
