It's a ridiculous premise to assume rampant criminal gangs are running within the ranks of LASD and identifying themselves with tattoos, but nobody has ever been arrested and charged with a crime that was committed to benefit, or at the direction, or in association of said gang
An alleged tattoo list is now being used to frame the size of LASD “deputy gangs.” Where is the evidence connecting the people counted to misconduct?
LA Public Press’s latest story cites 271 current and former employees with admitted or suspected tattoos, based on a former lieutenant’s description of an internal investigative report.
*The publication acknowledges it has not obtained that report.*
Yet a subheading describes a list of nearly 300 “deputy gang members.”
That is a significant leap.
And here’s some context:
As I reported in The Current Report in March, the Office of Inspector General’s February 26, 2026 report stated that, to its knowledge, LASD had not identified any group qualifying as a law enforcement gang under Penal Code §13670.
That describes a failure to identify qualifying groups - and it absolutely matters when assessing claims about hundreds of alleged members.
California’s law requires a pattern of on-duty misconduct to establish a law enforcement gang. A tattoo alone does not satisfy that definition. Even the OIG said they don’t have a problem with station tattoos at a @lacountybos meeting earlier this year.
Release the report. Reconcile the numbers.
Identify the misconduct and show the evidence. If it’s substantiated, they should be held accountable.
Accountability also includes the newsroom reporting unsubstantiated information as fact.
@abluecanary Unsubstantiated witch-hunt based on an anti-police idealogy
It'll never produce a single charge or positive identification of a criminal gang. Total waste of tax payer money.
@peppgrad No-income housing is the same as roadside tent camps. Always with the same result.
Without in patient treatment, it's just a cesspool of government spending on zombies waiting to die or kill each other.
@peppgrad@CaptRoho@philshouse57 You have to expect some house cleaning and growing pains.
When you take a leadership position, it's nice to have like minded supervisors to carry out your vision.
@CaptRoho@peppgrad@philshouse57 Always a bad day when the naked guy in traffic call came out, cause you knew it was a duster, and you knew it was gonna get physical.
@peppgrad@DaveValent6052@CaptRoho@philshouse57 Very cool. I tried to get a tour once. It was a month in advance, and I even had a senator sign it off, but still got denied. The history fascinates me and I'll try again some day.
