Official account for the tri-campus campaign dedicated to equity across the University of Michigan Flint, Dearborn, and Ann Arbor campuses #BreakTheSilos.
1/ WATCH NOW to see what Dearborn and Flint students, University Regents Paul Brown and Mark Bernstein, and former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed had to say about the University of Michigan's obligation to better serve its Flint and Dearborn communities:
@JordanAckerMI Only if you're on the Ann Arbor campus. If you're on the Dearborn and Flint campuses, the income eligibility remains 65K and there is a GPA requirement that many students struggle to meet.
U of M is one of the wealthiest public universities in the country. We know Ann Arbor can afford sustainable funding for the Flint and Dearborn campuses.
In 2022 while searching for a new University President, Regent Behm, advocated for more money to Flint and Dearborn campuses. We urge President Ono and the Regents to stand by their values of supporting ALL U-M campuses. @umichprezono @SantaJOno#FairShareNow#1U#UMich#GoBlue
A damning portrait of @UMich. A university that cannot step in to provide a true Go Blue Guarantee or strengthen language and Africana Studies programs, pays a former administrator 700K for... no reason at all. Where are the values and priorities of UM?

Regent Jordan Acker shouldn't take this personally. He's an elected official. It's political. Acker and others haven't kept their promises. Below are a few examples that hurt 1U, but many others go unfulfilled. @ProgressMich@OaklandDems@MichiganDems@GovWhitmer@aftmichigan
This is a denial of reality from someone who's taken advantage of MI's draconian public sector strike ban to:
–Sue GEO in 2020
–Threaten to sue LEO in 2021
–Sue GEO again in 2023
Supporting labor means supporting the RIGHT to strike & not suing workers for exercising that right.
We fought tooth-and-nail over 10 months of bargaining & 5 months of strike action, forcing U-M to grant the largest salary increase in GEO history.
However, U-M refused to ensure pay parity across all 3 campuses. This battle is over, but the fight goes on!
Our campuses have different missions and that’s okay. But a living wage for graduate workers and excellent learning conditions for students is about values, not missions. Do the right thing @UMich!
@AHammoudMI@RepDanKildee
Regent Acker (@JordanAckerMI) offered to boldly raise the endowment spend during his campaign. Acker released a 10-point plan that included more Regent meetings at DB and Flint. He did not followed through. Broken promises hurt the dem process and faith in an elected board.
We at @OneUniversityUM have known for years that @UMich doesn't want to invest in our students and campuses because of this kind of elitism. But together with allied groups such as @geo3550, @LEOUnionUmich, and @UMFAFTAAUP5671 we will continue to work to change that. (1/3)
"There are some things that we could do in regards to the endowment, for example, raise spending from the endowment of the general fund from 4.5 % to 6%. They could easily go back to 6 percent without any impact on the long-term financial viability of this university"
This is disrespectful to the incredible students at UMD/UMF. But it's not surprising. We don't claim our campuses are identical. But they deserve to be treated as valued members of the community. We need leadership-@SantaJOno-that makes clear this kind of language is unacceptable
I'm sorry, did @UMichHR just tell the fact finder that in part Flint and Dearborn are offered less money because those campuses have A DIFFERENT CLASS OF STUDENT????
@geo3550@RegentHubbard@UMich Sadly, these same regents raised tuition by almost double the Ann Arbor rate at the Dearborn and Flint campuses - those students who can least afford it.
@JordanAckerMI Former Pres Schlissel and the Regents promised Central Admin support for the GBG for six years. Yet UM-Dearborn is channeling its own giving to the GBG, when these funds could go to other crucial programs. Do you think that's fair?
@UMichPrezOno @UMich@UMichStudents@UMichDiversity This looks great! Our campuses have distinct missions but everyone deserves to feel valued by our institution. Let's make that a reality! https://t.co/wyY1XrWnpd
We know the feeling @geo3550. We've been promised bold action repeatedly, and yet austerity and zero transparency still reigns on the Dearborn and Flint campuses. We need leadership that will come through for the most vulnerable.
At the @UMich Regents meeting, grads gave the Regents a book of solidarity statements from public figures, faculty, and other unions. It was over 200 pages long. Everyone from the @UAW to @GovWhitmer to @BernieSanders agrees that grads deserve a living wage & a fair contract.
. @SantaJOno said that having the opportunity to study the arts made him a better scientist. But UM-Flint is closing its dance program. Dance classes serve as spaces for community engagement. Are UM-F students, and the Flint community, not worthy of these opportunities, Pres Ono?
