Over 70% of Uganda’s population is under 30. @NimdUganda does not take this statistic lightly. Youth representation in Uganda’s formal political structures has increased, but meaningful influence has not always followed.

The #NationalYouthSymposium26 aims to close this gap by bringing young leaders face to face with the institutions that are meant to be accountable to them and not just about them.

The #NationalYouthSymposium26 is convened by the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy |(NIMD) Uganda, with support from the European Union and in partnership with the Parliament of Uganda, the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Youth Affairs (UPFYA), Restless Development, Sensitize Uganda, the National Youth Council (NYC), and Faraja Africa Foundation.

🔸Day 1 focuses on trust and social cohesion after an election, as well as the role of youth leadership in promoting accountability and responsive service delivery.

I am honoured to have been selected to participate in the 4th National Youth Symposium 2026, organised by the @NimdUganda and will take place at the @Parliament_Ug. The theme is “Building Bridges, Shaping the Future: Youth Leadership for National Healing.

Uganda has just concluded its fifth general election cycle since returning to multiparty politics in 2005. By June 2026, 118 election petitions had already been filed before the High Court, 107 concerning parliamentary seats and 11 regarding local government.

These figures set the stage for the 4th National Youth Symposium, taking place on 23–24 September at the Parliament of Uganda.
