Fares trial @LNER ended in Feb 2026. It was unpopular with passengers, less flexible and more expensive. Why haven’t normal fares returned? @seatsixtyone@DavidHorne
@SteveWhiteRail@Captain_Deltic@greateranglia Steve is right. Greater Anglia are wrong. Connection should have been held. Passengers delayed by an hour because GA prioritise punctuality over customer service.
A bonus blog for Friday…
Less choice for passengers.
More expensive rail fares.
Welcome to the next phase of LNER’s “Simpler Fares pilot”.

My 1st attempt to ride the Paris-Milan Frecciarossa was cancelled at 48h notice when the French abruptly closed the UK/France border due to Covid;
2nd attempt cancelled when half a mountainside collapsed onto the line 2 weeks before;
3rd time lucky? 🫣
@AlexHynes Disingenuous. Your pic is 19:58 on a Thursday night. Hardly a busy time. It’s when there are delays and cancellations (rush hour and weekends) that it gets packed. Oh and please sort out the tube entrance!
New service: @railandroad has today approved the planned new Go-op train service between Swindon, Westbury, Taunton and Weston-super-Mare. Go-op plans to start operating in December 2025 at the earliest.
So to recap…
Bus fare cap ⬆️ 50%
Rail fares ⬆️ 4.6%
Rail cards ⬆️ by £5
Fuel duty… still frozen.
Gov talks of delivering on the environment yet undermines itself by failing to adequately tax our most polluting forms of transport & support the most sustainable. #Budget2024
Not sure why @greensignallers@Modern_Railways aren’t following up on this story. You share the view that @LNER Simpler Fares is a con, so here’s some extensive fares evidence to put to @DavidHorne
And to finish the month’s fares investigation, Day 31 off-peak average on @LNER is £180.42, a whopping 107% above the old £87 fare. Yes more than double! Higher (not Simpler) Fares.
To summarise, I have shown definitively over a month that @LNER are ripping off passengers, using surge pricing via advance tickets. The old £87 Saver was withdrawn on 5th Feb, with @LNER wrongly claiming Simpler Fares. @DavidHorne has not responded to any of this.
