Man United manager Erik Ten Hag reacts to a dramatic late turnaround to beat Brentford 2-1 today π€―
Antony's role at #mufc is often overlooked, and I understand why, given he's been less than impressive in possession. However, his contributions to the team's style of play hold significant importance.
Firstly, Antony's off-the-ball work rate and pressing are qualities sorely missed when he's absent.
He makes a lot of good runs in behind which can create goal-scoring opportunities when found by midfielders. He is eager to receive the ball and his movement oop also provides the mid/def with a reliable passing option (something our other attackers do not provide).
One thing he does very well is covering his full-back and offering defensive support. (This is just the basics, but sadly a lot of our wingers don't do this).
The team noticeably performs better when Antony is on the right wing, utilising the width of the pitch, creating space, and improving attacking dynamics.
Even if Antony is not great when on the ball his general impact on the team's performance is underrated.
