DevOpsDays Seattle is a volunteer-led community-focused event targeted at Seattle-area DevOps professionals. In addition to our CFP-based schedule (which is open for submissions now), we also hold open spaces onsite for attendees to discuss whatever topics interest them!
Advice for any tech worker who's been laid off: if your former employer comes running back to you asking for you to save their bacon, you can and should quote your "fuck off" consulting rates.
Also, if it won't buy a house those rates are almost certainly not high enough.
Enterprise leaders: Sharp, experienced folks are coming available. I implore you to seed your existing sharp, experienced folks with new ideas from this talent pool to move towards platforms focused on reducing the silo-hopping your product teams are forced to endure.
Well...was going to post some exciting Slalom Build news. Instead...if you are a dude in leadership like myself wondering what you can do today, at a minimum: cut your folks some slack, give them the day off, help them run interference with their project teams.
@Johnshinner @adamhjk@dberkholz Athletic Brewing Free Wave is great if you are into IPAs (and now easily available in SEA). I am also really digging hop water, like the Lagunitus Hop Refresher.

@DivineOps Been thinking about this a lot lately. My current take- a key part of team success is having a leader with their eyes up, looking ahead at where the team needs to go. You can't look increasingly further ahead if you are always looking down at the details.
I had been an advocate of "assume good intent"...as I continue to grow I realized just how much privilege that requires and have dropped it from my toolbox. I strive to do the work to understand my impact and call out when others are bringing folks down, regardless of intent.
I’m 100% behind eliminating “assume good intent”. I want you to live your values with actions, not hide behind the vagaries of your intention. I can cause pain without meaning to, and it doesn’t fix the hurt I caused. I can only learn and do better, hopefully overcoming my lapse.
One of the most interesting challenges and my focus over the last three years has been the SRE lead for this program. So honored to work with an amazing team on such a meaningful mission.
Slalom is proud to partner with @USCIS to modernize its cloud-based systems, like @EVerify - cutting cloud costs by 20% and improving speed and accuracy for the public. https://t.co/M3kLtXbHSo #SlalomFederal
@matthewpskelton For sure a thing, also see it within enterprises. Have lost track of how often I get asked for SRE help only to find they really just want ops or a typical "run" service. I get to say "no"...a lot.
@_breeeeen_ @UberGeekGirl@Slalom is hiring in DC, both commercial and federal side. I work closely with the federal folks where we bring commercial cloud and engineering capabilities into federal agencies looking to deliver modern experiences. https://t.co/repTydTImY and https://t.co/59dkPw0FVl
