Put another way, if the Wolves win 50+ games and are in position to make a run in the playoffs - yet I spent half of the season miserable because not everything is perfect, then what is Wolves fandom to me?
@podRetired I mean okay? Is there a guarantee he’s gone? No. Is the most likely outcome he’s gone? Yes. Point I’m making is I like that Finch stands up for the guys on the roster when they are in media crosshairs
Finch is getting a lot of heat for this but I like a coach falling on the sword for his players
He has been too forgiving of Julius to the media pretty much all year. But in this instance, I’d rather Finch take the blame than kick Julius on his way out.
Chris Finch when speaking about Julius Randle via @PAOnTheMic Nine to Noon show:
“It was up to me to get him going and involved and I didn’t. I take the blame because we couldn’t get him going in the playoffs”
@KipInItReal1 I think he uses the media to be critical of his players when A he’s already tried addressing it with them directly and B he knows they can handle it. I think he knows he’ll get more out of a Julius he publicly defended than one he publicly criticized.
@saddestwife I think what’s telling is he can be as critical as he was of KAT in that clip, Ant, Rudy, whoever - but will stand on the table in their defense when they are in the line of fire.
@saddestwife Yeah he was wrong for that, tho kinda cherry picked of you to go back 2 years for a clip.
But he tries to use the media to motivate his players by being publicly critical, provided they can handle it. If they can’t, he’s a staunch defender (Julius).
I think the situation warranted a more sweeping adjustment going into game 6. Finch went w Rudy sagging off Castle and he hit like 3 3s in the 1st.
Right process IMO, wrong adjustment - but it’s a make or miss league: Castle misses even his first one and it could go differently
Representative of Finch’s (questionable) philosophy: rather than make sweeping adjustments when things aren’t going well, stick to your guns/only slighter adjustments and things will come around
It’s good to not be too reactionary, but there’s a balance https://t.co/M4JVNx4i2Z
To me, the way @JonKrawczynski asked the question (full vid on YouTube) kinda teed it up for Connelly to say he wants his future to be here in Minnesota, etc…
This answer is how you’d expect him to respond if he was dodging that notion (or using the media to negotiate), no?
@podRetired Who is a first ballot hall of famer, has a track record of success in the role he’d be in, fits exactly what they need, w/o having to give any of their core young guys. Might not take down the bears of the western conference, but gotta be at least in the Buck convo (Giannis joke)
Forget Giannis, the Wolves best shot at contention is Jaden, Naz, Beringer, their young guys taking major leaps forward.
Balance the roster and give them the keys, they need them to know how much more there is there
Not that it precludes them from making a Kyrie-caliber move
Who says no?
Mavs can reroute Rudy/Julius (multiple picks/young players). Donte a long term play, TSJ an upside piece
Wolves balance their roster w/o trading the 2033 pick or the other swap
Kyrie
Ant
Jaden
Naz
Gafford
Ayo
Marshall
Joan
Klay
Bones?
Clark?
Slomo?
@JJungels1 Naz has one of the best handles in the league for his size. I think his post game is underutilized - and he plays quick. Would like to see him finally start. He does have a turnover problem, but I think you’re exaggerating. There’s more game there to tap into imo
@itmightbekd Agree -point is if firing the coach and making an all in trade are the two options you have in band-aiding an Ant trade request, you can’t afford to make a change before you know what you have, and then have exhausted that fully. And ideally not fire both bullets at the same time
@itmightbekd Maybe, but Jaden has shown there’s more to his game than the rope he’s been given. Naz has never been the unquestioned starter, etc
If Ant is going to demand out in 2 years regardless, that’s when you make the all in/Giannis move. Doing so now would be playing hand too early IMO
@march_mazness I think a Kyrie or Zion/Ja move is splashy enough to satisfy the feeling for a big change (I don’t want Zion or Ja). Point is I think there’s a way to do both
@itmightbekd It’s more exciting that way, but how much better is Ant, Giannis, and a bunch of minimums than the current roster but more balanced/a clearer identity?
Ceiling w Giannis is prob higher, but all the eggs are in the next two years or bust basket
