@Lordoftheringsu Tolkien did no such thing. He recalled memories as a child of men still building railway stations. He stated in the foreword to his 1973 edition that he despised any allegorical connections to his story.
@Its_ereko Why don't you people just STFU? Have you ever landed in Australia and lined up for the sniffer dogs? It's called security. No one is exempt.
@Kon__K The Refugee Convention has been abused from its original intent. Many so-called refugees are simply country shoppers for jobs, and in many cases, welfare benefits. A country only has an obligation to offer asylum (if proven) to the first nation the traveler enters.
@balsamo_r@HiddenHistoryYT@EchoesofWarYT Some visiting Japanese visited a factory outside of Melbourne, Australia in the 1980s. An old fellow nearly had a coronary and had to be helped to the doctor's office. Unbeknownst to others, it turns out that he had been an Australian POW of the Japanese on the Burma Railway.
@feelgoodtale I served in the USN. There was a friend of a friend who served in the USMC and spent eight months at Khe Sang. His loving wife told me quietly that he slept with two loaded .45 under the pillow each night. I can only pray that he reconciled his demons with time.
