@FactsandData13@TheMaineWonk Inflation was lower and falling when Trump took office. We can blame tariffs and the foolish war that closed the strait of Hormuz of a country with an nuclear program obliterated 8 months ago and no hope of delivering *any* weapon payload to the US
@FluentInFinance Read what I was replying to and what that was replying to for context. The notion is being pushed that the US is worse off today than before the Federal Reserve existed citing 113 years of inflation as evidence. I am pointing out that is not a useful metric
@FluentInFinance The median standard of living is substantially higher now than a 1913.
I’m unsure in what way knowing the 113 year total inflation is 3300 % is useful
@Ghostyb40451588@_nickmessenger@FluentInFinance Most people 113 years ago could not afford to own a home . Again, the median person’s life in the US is far better today than 113 years ago regardless of income taxes and inflation
I have both, flying the former on most holidays and reading the latter regularly.
Stereotypes are what keep the divide deep and appearing insurmountable, just like most of those leading our two party system want.
Fact is they are people with hearts and hopes one dreams and love for the country, just like you.
Some liberals are assholes who make it hard to talk to, just like some MAGA make it hard for me to talk to them. There are only some of these on both sides and they manage to suck all the air out of the room by yelling at each other
To me both these liberal and MAGA screamers types are different side of same poisonous coin that is slowly wrecking my country
@JohnMeus@FluentInFinance Median household post tax income in $72k so that’s 45% spent on that mortgage…., If they managed to scrape together $110 K for the down payment
I definitely do something charitable with probably at least 10% of it
you only need so much money to be comfortable. set endowments for children, so they’ll have a steady basic income stream that would let them pursue their dream job, and even take all the trips 1st class and pretty much buy anything you might possibly want that’s not silly (like a jet or a a yacht) and nice home where you want to live and *maybe* a second home some other favorite place (but again, what is Vrbo for a month at a nice house? $50k? )
I doubt if I’d give the whole of the charity to a single church, but I might give mine enough for an endowment to make sure the roof is always fixed and that sort of thing and maybe to have a full-time pastor instead of a halftime pastor.
Is ‘millis’ millisecond? (generally abbreviated ‘ms’)
I am curious about the strength of the correlation and whether it is dominated by the rare big move or smaller ones with each tweet that could add up to something meaningful.
Latency would be important to take advantage of the latter and I wonder if the it is only big moves if that would be all that helpful in total returns over extended periods.
Not only LLM processing but also entering and executing the trade will comtribute latency
@jeremymstamper Not awful. It does mean you are probs oblivious to other layers of humanity. Intelligence makes people more fun in some ways. there’s much more that you are probably missing out on.
Only 1/5th of donations have been public health related. Ghenis piled it all into the same pot. We have no reasonable way to evaluate how research on climate disruption will result in QALY increase, nor is QALY the be all and end all of value in charitable giving.
Did you even read Ghenis' writeup? opening paragraph:
"almost none of it is denominated in health. I built an interactive model that asks what it bought in QALYs anyway"
@MaxGhenis@GiveDirectly You lumped all the giving into QALY, even though only around 20% went into Public Health related grants.
We accurately map funding to basic research, climate change, and education etc to QALY, and QALY is not the only measurement of value
@WhiteHouse Thank goodness for the CHIPs act, that began bipartisan development in 2019 and continued in 2021 signed into law in 2022

@johnhawkinsrwn@grok adjust the current US federal minimum wage into dollars the year joshhawkinsrwn was 18 and compare the to the actual minimum wage that same year
