🧵Today in Parliament I used privilege to expose @EnoughToEndRape - the company behind self-swab rape kits.
They use lawyers to intimidate rape charities and threaten young women into silence.
Today that stops. #EnoughIsEnough
Noticed that @AphraBrandreth has posted online that she raised the issue of the Eurovision strangulation song with ministers. Thank you.
Where were other politicians on this issue?
We've written a song in response to the @BBC having failed to intervene in the song that minimises strangulation.
I look back on the TV show Eldorado fondly; doubt many will feel that about this years' Eurovision.
@grahnort@Rylan@angelascanlon
@stellacreasy 5,000+ people signed our petition against the @BBC's broadcast of the entry 'Choke Me'. People who signed included survivors of strangulation and people who have childhood memories of their mums be strangled. https://t.co/O8DPPGaQRv. Politicians silent on this one.
Please watch our Eurovision song instead of the Choke Me strangulation promotion endorsed by @BBC. Ours it catchier and contains some facts: https://t.co/yOu3PNkNcj
England, Wales and Northern Ireland introduced a non-fatal strangulation law in recent years. Campaigners in Scotland are lobbying for it there. It would be great if we could all show them support.
Please sign the petition by the charity @Emilytest12 . Link in comments.
Question for tech people - @BBC and @Ofcom complaints require form-filling. Suspect there's a way to pre-fill fields for people to make it easy for them to submit. Any suggestions welcome. Here's the BBC one: https://t.co/RiuYNVuCxq
@CF_Farrow Thank you for highlighting.
Our petition has 5,000+ signatures but @BBC has been silent on it. We would like those who signed to support us in pursuing a complaint to hold them accountable now it has already aired. Open to suggestions on how to do this, including @Ofcom.
Our suggestion for a more useful announcement people could make on LinkedIn instead of announcing that they completed a LinkedIn Learning course on eCommerce Management.
@MenAtWork_MC You @MenAtWork_MC are the only man who has called out the dangers of strangulation (and done so across platforms). Thank you. I'll be highlighting that again in a few years when those men who are silent now start giving their hot takes on how bad strangulation is.
@MenAtWork_MC Most of the men on LinkedIn preaching to other men how to be 'good men' didn't post anything on strangulation when we asked them to. They've been very quiet on the subject of strangulation during sex or watching porn that features it.
Please support a petition set up by a charity @Emilytest12. We are not associated with them, we are not based in Scotland either.... but we should all support them. They are campaigning to get a non-fatal strangulation law in Scotland. Please sign it: https://t.co/ojS4bxdf2X
Overall, most signatures were from women. This suggests the issue isn't about Eurovision and it isn't about this one song, it is about a collective objection to the normalisation of violence against women regardless of location.
20% of the signatures on our petition against @bbc's broadcast of 'Choke Me' have come from people who are not living in the UK and aren't involved in Eurovision. Interesting that 50% of signatures from Romania were men objecting to their country's own song.
Please sign and share the petition created by the charity @Emilytest12 to get a non-fatal strangulation law in Scotland. https://t.co/CWmohTf8Dr. Please also follow and support the great work of EmilyTest.
Thank you everyone who signed and shared our petition about the song 'Choke Me' in Eurovision. @BBC - I always thought Eldorado would be the worst thing you ever broadcast but you surpassed yourselves.
Our next call to action will be @Ofcom. Please follow us for updates.
