A4. Let the teachers teach to the standards, but in their own way. Also, not put as much pressure on state testing so teachers can have more time to do different things with students, like have discussions and create projects. #oklaed
A3. Accountability would be through administrators checking on teachers and observing student learning. Students would be held accountable and assessed by what they are able to produce in the classroom, not what their state test scores are. #oklaed
A2. I would want a classroom that is hands on and where learning is fun and interactive, with lots of discussions between teachers and students. #oklaed
A1. I graduated only a few years ago, but from clinical observations, it seems like schools focus a lot more on state testing than they used to #oklaed
@ShariGateley @edu_sanders70@Stv_Gilliland@thestephhinton@MrGragg @thnorfar @watersenglish I am a student at USAO, working to get my bachelor's degree in History Education. As part of my class, I am required to look at and participate in this chat, I don't really know what I am doing though, lol #oklaed
@gothgirl015@USAOWTC So true! How can we expect people to learn and grow from the past if we are not teaching them all that the past entails? We need to teach future generations of the dark sides of our history so they can learn from it.
It’s sad how Rufus turned out but expected with the society he was in. Interesting how Dana went back in present time to where the plantation was and researched what happened to everything/everyone. She still can’t fully escape the past even after Rufus is gone. @USAOWTC#WTCKin2
@WT3tweets@USAOWTC I like Dana, too. She is so passionate about everything. Really is an inspiration in that even though these people in this society are awful to her, she just keeps going. I feel like if I were in her situation, I would just give up and not care what happened to me.
I love this book! It’s so interesting the way that Butler connects the past to the present and represents how one can never really escape where they came from. It is also crazy to see how easily one can be forced into playing a specific role in society. @USAOWTC#WTCKin1
@Matthew07319279@USAOWTC Very true. Society is having to start changing traditions to fit the needs of current citizens. We are having to rid of the grand narratives that we have built for ourselves in society to allow for historical wrongs to be righted.
Butler states “Gender is an act that has been rehearsed” I think that speaks so well to our society. While growing up, we’re always told to act like a lady or boys will be boys and so we are raised to fit into that certain role @USAOWTC#WTCGender
@WT3tweets@USAOWTC I agree. It was interesting to hear from all different perspectives but it was also difficult to find the truth as each storyteller seemed to tell their story in a way that made them each look in the best light. #WTCGrove
Telling the story from different perspectives was so intriguing! But the truth is hard to find as the characters painted themselves each in the best way. I also noted that a lot of what happened was driven by some of the 7 deadly sins: lust, jealousy and greed @USAOWTC#WTCGrove
@AllieMo92634146@USAOWTC I would still consider it art. The photos from Jacob Riis was intended to deliver the emotion of sadness and play on empathy, which it does, and I would still consider his photography as a work of art even tho its hard to look at #WTCPostImp
I like how he explained post-impressionism as nothing more than a return to tradition of art. That it’s not necessarily a matter of technique but of painting something intended to provoke emotion. #WTCPostImp@USAOWTC
@DestineyisHere7@USAOWTC So true. I was surprised that the Westerners even saw Japanese art as an inspiration at this point in history. But it makes me happy that they did #WTClmp
I thought that at this time Westerners would still see Japan as inferior and would automatically classify Japanese art as subservient. I was gladly surprised that Western artists were actually inspired by Japanese art; especially for Van Gogh! @USAOWTC#WTCImp
@JillNichWT3@USAOWTC I thought that too. The pictures were kinda sad to look at but at least it did its purpose of drawing attention to the problems in the cities. #WTCReal19
People were upset about Courbet’s Burial at Oran painting because it lacked a sense of heroism. It probably would be hard to shift from Romanticism and the displaying of emotion and action to Realism and showing the darker sides of life in its truest forms @USAOWTC#WTCReal19
