Volunteer advocates working together (with support from @t1international) for #insulin4all. We advocate for transparency and lower cost of insulin in PA.
A vial of insulin in the US is priced at $275+, over 10x more expensive than any other country on Earth.
Without 24/7/365 insulin, 7 million Americans die a severely painful death in 2-3 days.
7 million lives are treated as expendable by our govt so 3 companies can profit.
Just 3 companies control nearly all of our insulin supply: Eli Lilly, Sanofi, and Novo Nordisk. Shocker: it turns out they raise prices in tandem—at least 13x in 10 years—while patients are rationing or starving themselves to try to cut costs. I want answers.
If your argument is “we can’t cap drug prices bc of R&D,” I’d ask, “if patients can’t afford BASIC INSULIN, you think you’ll be able to afford something Phrma considers “innovative?””
Drugs only work if the people who need them can afford them.
Always baffles me when people are like “but only 3% of COVID deaths are people under 50!” as if they’re perfectly ok with sacrificing every young chronically ill person
Picked up refills of non-insulin products today. Retail for 3 months of dexcom sensors? $1235. Ketostix? $27. Pen needles? $54. Glucagon? $295. Baqsimi? $650. Over $2000 retail for the "non-essential" products. Insulin will ve over $4000 for 3 months. #insulin4all
Our most recent episode had an interview with @N_A_K. Noah is a mensch and a tireless advocate for the global #Insulin4all campaign. I want to share a little person history here.
1. This year marks 100 years since the discovery of insulin.
2. The patent for insulin was sold for $1 so that it could be created and distributed widely.
3. Today, people all over the world cannot access it or afford it.
What would you do? #insulin4all
This week @WHO hosted the 1st Informal Consultation on People Living with Diabetes. Many T1I Advocates attended and spoke about the power of patients and that we must be treated as the experts that we are. We hope this results in genuine changes towards #insulin4all.
Tmrw I will testify at a hearing in Illinois to help them pass a version of Alec's Law. Every state needs this Law and I am willing to help others pass it as well. #insulin4all#LongLiveAl

Please do not romanticize Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. They are still pharmaceutical giants that exploit and monopolize lifesaving medicines.
The insulin companies want to write out Banting and Best from the 100 year celebrations because it will remind people they gave insulin away to the world for free.
And then they swooped up their gift for profit #insulin4all
Holy shit. My doc prescribed me insulin, but my new insurer doesn’t cover the brand. Out of pocket the Humulin is $2,500. What a way for my professional life to intersect with the personal — drug pricing is ridiculous. Insulin should not cost this much.
So @AmDiabetesAssn killed its previous website, https://t.co/BMabmrujJi to swap it with this one, https://t.co/7auESEKf6x. This shifts the burden from manufacturers/govt to make insulin affordable and onto individual patients to request “help” affording insulin to survive.
