There's a new Sheriff in town.

Sheriff Edwin Raymond has dedicated his life to protecting the people of New York while bettering the institutions keeping us safe.

He grew up in East Flatbush, the son of Haitian immigrants. He became an NYPD officer to build bridges between the force and the communities they serve, and to write a new legacy for the NYPD. His life's work has been fighting for truth, justice, and safety.

I can think of no one better to serve as the Sheriff of the City of New York.

It is heartbreaking to witness the devastation caused by the recent floods in the villages of #Nuristan. In one video, aid workers pointed to the rubble where an entire family had lost their lives, their bodies still trapped beneath the debris, awaiting recovery. It is a sobering reminder of the immense human cost of this tragedy.

If these scenes leave those of us watching from afar feeling devastated, one can only imagine the unimaginable grief and #trauma endured by the survivors who witnessed their loved ones, neighbors, and entire communities swept away by this disaster. No words can fully express the depth of their suffering.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones, those who have been displaced from their homes, and the courageous #humanitarian workers who continue to risk their own safety to provide lifesaving assistance. Many thanks to @FAO and the @WorldBank for the construction of raisin houses, also known as kishmish khanas, for farmers in #Afghanistan. For Afghan farmers, raisin houses are crucial because they provide increased quality and quantity of raisin, which positively impacts their income. Through the use of these structures, #farmers will be able to produce better quality raisins in a shorter period of time, giving them greater access to international markets. @UN @FAOAfghanistan #raisinhouses

Recently, Mirwais Karzai graduated from high school and his younger sister, Malalai Karzai, completed elementary school. They are both children of former Afghan president Hamid Karzai.

Congratulations to you both 🎓

When I worked in the office of the former President, I had daily encounters with the siblings. Malalai who was only 6-year old and her little sister, Nazo used to play 'kick scooters' in their yard since the adjoining building housed the President’s office.

They wore clothing similar to that worn by other Afghan children. Each time someone walked through the yard, the kids would stop and wait until they passed. They were respectful and well-behaved. There was never a word raised between them and they always engaged in peaceful play and showed friendly behavior towards each other.

Although @KarzaiH chose not to live in the newly built extravagant mansion within the presidential palace, which he considered too large for him, and instead continued to raise his four children in the old modest home adjacent to the palace.

In the end, I wish Mirwais and Malalai all the best in their academic endeavors and pray that one day they will leverage their education and potential to actively contribute to the rebuilding and development of our shared homeland, #Afghanistan 🇦🇫

My father once told me that if AFG leaders kept their families in 🇦🇫 & sent their children to local schools to study with other AFG children that would foster a national spirit & a sense of nationalism among Afghans.@KarzaiH has gone to great lengths to prove his Afghan identity.
