📢 Climate Litigation Update | Advancing Climate Justice in Africa🍀🌍⚖️✊🏾
A bold coalition of African civil society organizations has submitted a historic petition to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, seeking an advisory opinion on the human rights obligations of African states in the face of the climate crisis.
This is more than a legal milestone—it’s a moral imperative! As the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) prepare to issue similar opinions, we are witnessing a global wave of climate accountability. These advisory processes are not just legal instruments; they are potent tools for intergenerational justice, a pathway to systemic change, and a call to hold major polluters accountable for the harm they have caused.
This effort is driven by the visionary leadership of organizations such as: African Climate Platform | Resilient40 | Natural Justice | Environmental Lawyer Collective for Africa, with strong support from the Pan African Lawyers Union.
This is a defining moment for climate justice in Africa—and an opportunity for all of us to be part of shaping a just, sustainable future.

This Tuesday evening at 8 PM on my #AfricanSpeak Spaces, I’ll host @WMutunga, Kenya’s retired Chief Justice. We will examine whether the Judiciary is living up to its role in the @kizzabesigye1 detention & who is actually on trial, Besigye or the State? Set a reminder & spread the word
We are deeply troubled by the continued detention of Dr Kizza Besigye, Haji Obeid Lutale and Eron Kiiza, which undermines the ruling of the Supreme Court of #Uganda and the principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

The question shouldn't be, "How did we get here?" but rather now that we are here, "What are we going to do about it?". To change the norm, you have to embrace the new.
Fellow Comrades, WEDNESDAY IS WEDNESDAY and my DM is open for those in Kampala.

I had the privilege of interfacing with Counsel *Kevin Amujong* of *Okalang Law Chambers in Jinja.* Came face to face with a lady I now know is a great cross-examiner. She grilled me on my manifesto for over twenty minutes. I believe I responded successfully.
As a renowned law expert & advocate for human rights, I will champion independence, impartiality & accountability in our Judiciary. Let's reclaim justice for all! Vote wisely! @ug_lawsociety @PrimahKwagala @SBaluka
