Family friendly-ish occasional dookie-poster
anything I say should be taken with a grain of salt; maybe more than a grain, I may have slacked on the seasoning.
@PhrogPollen@thetangles Full Metal Panic has a good mix of action and slice-of-life elements. Spy X Family is good in the same way. Frieren is good if you are looking for fantasy but it can be a bit slow at times. The warrior princess and barbaric king is a recent one that balances both well.
This is why history matters.
This only sounds like a clever “gotcha” if you’re ignorant of the history of medicine. The Catholic Church played a major role in pioneering the modern hospital system. To this day it is the world’s largest non-governmental healthcare provider.
In the 3rd and 4th centuries Christian authors had to explain in their writings why women and slaves should have an equal place in the afterlife to emperors and men.
The claim that contemporary Western ethics are just universal inclinations is evidently false.
@PhoenixA7th@fluffybiscuit03 It is personally beneficial to be part of a society. A society being necessary to the continuation of humanity is not a thought that crosses most people's minds. If there was an inherited virtue we would not have moral differences across cultures, immorality would be a disorder.
@PhoenixA7th@fluffybiscuit03 So the majority of people are naturally selfless and submit to the greater good? It seems like you assume that people like me are immoral but the rest of humanity is naturally moral. I would bet the majority of people do not care about the fate of humanity vs their own life.
@PhoenixA7th@fluffybiscuit03 Thirdly, a Christian does not “have integrity out of fear of hell” we are destined for Hell if not for the grace of God. But, because Christ has withheld the punishment that is justified for us, we have a responsibility to struggle against our sinful nature. Not win, but fight.
@PhoenixA7th@fluffybiscuit03 Secondly, yes, a major part of Christian morality is the fact that we all have a selfish nature, that is inherently detrimental to others and that it is moral to deny that selfish nature and do what is right. And what is right is often opposed to our desires.
