Councillors last night discussed their strong opposition to Government plans for a new Development Corporation for Greater Cambridge. They raised concerns about shifting major planning powers away from locally elected councils and the impact this could have on community involvement 🏘️🤝
With many new homes and jobs already in the pipeline, Councillors highlighted that the biggest challenges are funding and delivering transport, utilities and other essential infrastructure - areas where closer partnership with Government would help most 🚌💡🚰
Greater Cambridge already has an award‑winning planning service too - @GCSP_Planning - which is the current National Planning Authority of the Year as named at November's prestigious Royal Town Planning Institute Awards for Planning Excellence
The Government’s consultation runs until 1 April 2026. Residents are encouraged to review the proposals and share their views 💬

🌹🪖 In a powerful show of community spirit, local veterans planted flowers and shrubs in the new memorial garden in Cambourne today to help shape a space that honours their service and supports future generations. Their involvement reflects the deep personal significance of the project and the strong ties Cambourne has to its military heritage.
💰 Cambourne Town Council were awarded £20,000 funding from our Improving the High Street grant to develop a Memorial Garden, which comes from the @CambsPboroCA's Shared Prosperity Fund.
💬 Cllr Helene Leeming, a district councillor for Cambourne and a member of Cambourne Town Council, said: “Cambourne is 25 years old, but unlike lots of towns and villages, we didn’t have a war memorial. There are many people who live here and want to show their gratitude."
💬 Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said: “Green spaces play a vital role in enriching our communities, as does an understanding of our shared history. Congratulations to the Town Council and all involved in this thoughtful initiative, I hope everyone in Cambourne will enjoy using the new garden.”

@SouthCambs District Council awarded £20,000 to fund the project, so Cambourne can finally get a war memorial after 25 years.
