Air quality alerts issued across Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
Millions of residents in the South are being urged to take precautions as outdoor air quality has deteriorated to unhealthy levels.
According to the EPA’s AirNow system, multiple areas have reached the “Unhealthy” and even “Very Unhealthy” categories. This means the air can pose risks not only to sensitive populations but also to the general public in harder-hit spots.
The primary pollutants driving the alerts are ground-level ozone (smog) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Ground-level ozone forms when emissions from vehicles, power plants, and factories react in the presence of sunlight and heat. Stagnant air and high temperatures allow these levels to spike quickly. Fine particulate pollution consists of microscopic particles that can penetrate deep into the lungs and even enter the bloodstream. Prolonged exposure is associated with cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems, and increased risk of premature death.
Higher-risk groups include children, older adults, people with asthma, and those with existing heart or lung conditions. However, even healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as coughing, throat and eye irritation, shortness of breath, and chest tightness when pollution levels rise.
Air quality alerts are becoming more frequent across the U.S. Experts point to a mix of hotter temperatures, prolonged heat waves, drought, ongoing emissions, and wildfire smoke as contributing factors.
Officials recommend limiting or avoiding strenuous outdoor activity, especially midday, keeping windows closed and using air conditioning where possible, and checking local air quality reports regularly.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley is under threat. @GestureWildly reports from the Gulf Coast prairies and wetlands that are being razed by SpaceX, Border Patrol, and the fossil fuel industry.

🚨 BREAKING: The Pacific may be preparing something the modern climate record has never seen before.
The latest 2026 model ensemble is projecting a possible +3.3°C Niño 3.4 anomaly by December.
That number is almost hard to comprehend.
Historical giants:
🔹 1997–98: ~+2.4°C
🔹 2015–16: ~+2.6–2.8°C
🔹 1877: ~+2.5°C
🔴 2026 forecast: +3.3°C
This isn’t “Super El Niño.”
This is uncharted territory.
And before people say “just one model”…
No.
📊 13 climate models
📊 643 ensemble members
📊 Median signal still screaming: EXTREME
If this scenario even comes close to verifying, the planet could face a climate whiplash event:
🔥 Explosive global heat
☀️ Droughts intensifying across vulnerable regions
🌧 Flood disasters elsewhere
🌾 Crop stress & food price volatility
🔥 Wildfire danger surging
🌊 Massive weather disruptions rippling worldwide
NOAA already says El Niño is likely to emerge soon (82% probability) and persist into winter 2026-27, though peak strength remains uncertain. (Climate Prediction Center)
Will it really hit +3.3°C?
Maybe not.
But the fact that the models are even producing numbers this extreme should make everyone pay attention.
Because if the Pacific pulls this off…
2026-27 may not be remembered as a normal El Niño year.
It may be remembered as the year the climate system went off the historical chart.

“As civilisations run into resource depletion, the most innovative individuals now become the parasites: no longer able to monetize an ailing economic system, they invent a new business: genocide”
I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline.
“Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet.*
Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming.**
Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”***
* in 1937, Guy Callendar published a paper showing that the world had already warmed over the last 50 years due to human emissions what he called “carbonic acid“ – what we now call CO2 – from burning fossil fuels
** If you are wondering, “how could humans be causing more than 100% of the warming?”
— it’s because, according to natural factors, the earth should be cooling right now.
So our emissions are offsetting that cooling AND causing all of the observed warming.

Disturbing news. Loss of Arctic sea ice has caused an “irreversible” shift in the chemistry of the ocean that is disrupting the foundations of chain of life, a two-decade-long study has concluded. Tipping points are already here…

Two chemical crises in the last week, the deadly implosion at a paper mill in Washington and the damaged tank that caused a multiday evacuation in Southern California, reveal long-standing gaps in the federal systems meant to protect communities and workers. https://t.co/TQAGonOywk
Science gasps for breath. They are removing all the ocean monitors to understand changes in currents and climate, and the excuse is a master class in obfuscation & double speak . (1/2) https://t.co/vs782YbcI3
