𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬.

The 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 reports a global nursing shortage of 𝟓.𝟖 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧. It also highlights that, in many countries, at least 𝟔𝟎–𝟔𝟓% of nurses work in hospital settings, with too few serving in communities, homes, clinics, and primary care.

Community nurses help connect patients with preventive, coordinated, and continuous care closer to home. They also support health education, care coordination, and people living with long-term conditions.

Nursing workforce planning should therefore consider not only how many nurses are available, but also where they serve.

The 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 calls for nursing workforce policies that strengthen hospitals, communities, and primary care while keeping patients at the centre.
