Linking the “Viksit Bharat by 2047” mission with “Insurance for All by 2047” is a natural step—recognising the vital role insurance plays in driving growth, resilience, and responsible risk-taking. However, achieving this vision demands a calibrated effort...My take in @economictimes

Watching the stock market feels like a horror movie. Analysts who predicted a bull run weeks ago now call it a correction, while bears warn the bloodbath may continue for months.
No one can perfectly time the markets—not even top brokers, who endure setbacks but have the appetite for losses. While building wealth is important, ensuring adequate protection is essential.
Here are my 7 commandments:
1. Buy a pure term life insurance plan. The premiums are low, and a must have if you have a family or dependant parents.
2. A medical insurance plan. Family floater is good plan, increase the coverage through top ups. Ensure your parents are also covered early if they don't have any other insurance coverage.
3. A home insurance, specially if you have an existing home loan.
4. Keep a small fund, which is at least 6 months of your current salary in case of a job loss.
5. If you have elderly parents open a senior citizen savings account for them. The interest rates are higher than normal fixed deposits
6. Don't panic if you are sitting on a loss. If the scrips are good they will rebound in no time.
7. As regards a monthly small saving with consistency SIP सही हेBut Recurring deposit, whatever amount depending on disposable surplus, ज़्यादा सही हे !

Possible revival of Tariffs and Trade barriers in Trump- 2 regime . A balanced approach at ours will help protect local interests while attracting foreign investment.

बीमा बहुत ज़रूरी है !
बीमा क्षेत्र में शत-प्रतिशत FDI ?
The IRDAI has set an ambitious goal of achieving "Insurance for All" by 2047—covering life, health, and property. It also aims to make the sector globally competitive.
Sounds great, but consider this: insurance must reach 1.4 billion people across 4,000+ cities, towns, and roughly 640,000 villages.
Are they ready for this massive task?
Compared to the 155,000 bank branches (52,000 in villages), insurers fall short in both reach and manpower. To meet this challenge, both public and private insurers will need to expand into more towns and villages. While they do have a sizable agent network of around 2.75 lakh, it may still not be enough to bridge the gap.
It is against this backdrop, that IRDAI chairman Debasish Panda pitch for a 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in the insurance sector makes more sense.
India, with a strong, independent insurance regulator, is ready for opening up the sector. We are currently the 10th-largest insurance market in the world, and as per Swiss Re’s report, we are projected to become the sixth-largest insurance market in 2032, surpassing Italy, Canada, South Korea, and Germany.
But compared to these countries, the insurance coverage for our population is very low. Latest data shows insurance penetration stood at 4.2% of the GDP in 2022, which included 3.2% from life insurance and 1.0% from non-life (general) insurance.
If we need to improve on this, we will require companies with good capital to expand. At a time, when the world is looking at India, there is no reason why we shouldn't allow more foreign investment in sectors, which can lead to a virtuous cycle of growth.
The regulator so far has done an outstanding job, and under the proposed Insurance Bill, there is a lot of potential for differentiated players. This will sync well with the government's flagship schemes, such as Ayushman Bharat.
उम्मीद का उत्सव...
Festivals remind us of the joy in sharing and caring. It's often said that the more we give, the more happiness we receive in return.
And this hope is what carries us through challenging times. Banking, at its core, is a business of hope. We lend with the expectation that the funds will not only generate returns but also create a virtuous cycle. A home loan can stimulate the realty sector, a car loan boosts the auto industry, and an education loan is more than just a transaction—it represents the bank’s hope for a lasting relationship.
RTN in his will ensured his pet is taken care of, he also left something for his support staff besides allocating to the charities he was associated with.
Perhaps there is a lesson for us in here. When we come to think of giving back to the society, our good intentions are always plagued with doubts. Will the money reach the beneficiary, are these people genuine and so on.
Starting small can make a big impact.
We can help those closest to us—the ones we see and interact with daily - the maid whose services are so important for us, the delivery boys , the kuda wala who lifts garbage from our house/ society , the part time sweeper n canteen boy in branch and so on.its not position ; but intention will help create a better world around you.
Personally, I'm involved in supporting education for the underserved, but your cause can be whatever speaks to you. It’s about making a difference, one step at a time.
This festive season lets both give and take hope. Jai Hind.

नई शुरुआत, नया खाता...
As markets continue their stellar performance, it's evident that informed Indian investors are increasingly seeking better returns. Mutual Funds (MF), Systematic Investment Plans (SIP), and the appeal of direct equity investments are gaining traction, even in small towns and villages. This trend poses a challenge for Indian lenders to raise deposits, particularly low-cost ones, which are essential for lending.
It's no surprise that the Finance Minister emphasized in her budget interviews that banks need to focus on their core business: mobilizing deposits and lending money.
In this paradigm, this is where every bank needs to revisit their strategy. Led by both bank branches and digital offerings, there is again a need for revisiting the existing accounts and bring in new ones through SB & RDs. Recurring deposits which were very popular in 30-40 years back can be revived and resold! Similarly providing the depositors the retail loans including Demat n MF service in line with SBI at ease will prevent them from going to others.
Mission should be - खोलो खाता।
This approach needs to be calibrated to avoid putting undue pressure on staff. Regional and even branch-level strategies should be devised to tailor services and meet specific local needs rather than issuing a general फरमान।
There's significant potential in our North East states and the Eastern Belt, including Odisha and West Bengal. Inputs from young bankers should be considered to develop strategies for reaching out to the younger generation.
Young bankers can lead financial literacy missions in schools and colleges, understanding the pulse of the younger generation and helping banks develop long-term relationships. In addition to the general Productivity Linked Incentive (PLI), it may be beneficial to introduce specific incentives for top performers. This could help motivate employees and encourage higher productivity and innovation.
