This Freeman commanded the torture of counsel @kiizaeron, as if that was was not enough, he convicted him for 9 straight months in Prison. He was the complainant and Judge in his own case.

How do people like Freeman afford to sleep peacefully? What exactly do beasts like Freeman tell their children and wives? Is Freeman proud of his rather irrational actions?

The tribunal sessions will never be the same without Eron🥲. I am here fighting with my conscience on whether to be in Freeman’s torture chambers or not 😭

The tropes exist for a reason and unfortunately dismissing them will not make them disappear, sorry to say. The public has good reason to ask questions pertaining to anyone, any group or organisations purporting to be acting in public interest when they have a financial incentive to do so.

And to be fair this curiosity is not limited only to civil society advocacy, but even extends to public health, public education, environmentalism, women's rights, HIV activism, etc. and all other manner of social causes for which cottage industries of technocrats, consultants, and activists have emerged whose remuneration, facilitation and allowances usually comprise the bulk of the expenditures related to these projects.

Call this a trope if you want but we've all seen this being abused repeatedly, with communities no better off inspite of numerous projects launched in their names, with only the professionals involved with the projects benefitting in the long run.

This is quite petty. Like all ventures, private and public, success takes hard work. If it took you effort to draw up a proposal and get funding, good for you. Congratulations. Enjoy the consulting fees, salaries, per diems, travel and all the perks that come with it. You've earned it 🫡.

All we're saying is just don't act like we're now somehow indebted to you, or that we're somehow lesser than you, because we may have a different view of how to do things.

I mean, you don't think there's technocrats in government also labouring everyday to draft complicated proposals for funding - which are orders of magnitude greater than what the same donors give you for your smaller projects? Are they now special? Must I now venerate these government technocrats because through writing proposals for projects, they are trying to design a great fantastic future for Uganda? Are they now beyond reproach? Are civil society groups or activists now not allowed to critique them?

I'm glad you can see how ridiculous this argument is.

No matter how hard you, any NGO, or any government technocrats, labor to write proposals and get funding for projects you believe to be in the public's interest, it doesn't make any of you gods. If you've taken it upon yourself to take on these tasks, good for you. We the public are allowed to assess, evaluate, critique and comment - if these projects are presented as being of public interest. And, yes, if you look down on us, or dismiss us, as we do so, then you will probably be mocked and your credibility will be questioned.

The commercialisation of activism undermines any claim to moral legitimacy. That's what everyone's trying to tell you. Just because in your head you think you are a superhero, it doesn't mean we are obliged to venerate you. The performative nature of it all underscores this. Do what you gotta do, earn your keep, we only ask that you and your supporters don't berate those who are not equally enthused. It's your hustle, not ours.
