Dear Lush (cc Chelmsford City Council),
As a woman who had half a breast removed last year due to cancer, I am writing to raise my concerns about your “Proud of My Stripes” window display.
I am also, on behalf of other women who have experienced breast cancer, respectfully requesting its removal.
Because mastectomies are not a fashion statement, an identity marker or something to be celebrated.
They are something women undergo because they are ill, because they are frightened, because they are trying to stay alive.
Around 59,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK every year. Many will undergo surgery - a mastectomy, lumpectomy or other procedure.
Others choose preventive mastectomies because they carry a high-risk BRCA gene mutation.
If a woman chooses to have her breasts removed to affirm a gender identity, that is her personal choice.
I honestly don’t know the number of women who have elective mastectomies for this reason.
What I do know is that it is a tiny number compared with those for whom breast surgery is medically necessary and not something to be celebrated.
I think I speak for many women who have experienced breast cancer - and for their families - when I say this:
Breast removal surgery is not something I regard as cute, playful or empowering.
Nor is it something I believe retailers should be celebrating.
For that reason, I am requesting that the display be removed and that @ChelmsCouncil apologise for promoting it on social media.
Yours sincerely,
Janet Murray
@HPinterTheatre amazing venue, fantastic just show fully let down by the staff, quite rude, absolutely no energy for a kids show, shambles of a meet and greet and no one could answer any questions on the history of the theatre “it might 1940s but check the signs”#disappointing
It is time to launch the Crusade.
Mohammedans are trying to buy a slice of Britain for Islamic extremism, their own Sharia country.
Let us instead reclaim it for Christ.
Reconquista!
3 billion for Ukraine, 11.6 billion foreign climate aid whatever that is, billions for hotels for criminals but not enough for pensioners and there will be tax hikes.
Again, if you voted Labour…well done dickheads 👏🏼
@ameliagentleman Honestly you are the problem. As a women I want a safe space, women only spaces, men have the right to their space as well. Leave their boys club be. Plenty of places to have a women’s only club. This is not a win. You have just undermined women.
As Police Scotland refuse to investigate actual crimes, our new "hate crime" law is about to go live. A law that will criminalise speech in your own home. A law that allows Police to search your property & anyone present if they believe "hate" is happening. A law where edgy memes will get you a fine or time in prison. They will tell you what your intent is because they know your thoughts and motivations better than you do, and you will be punished.
11/04/2023 Congressman Mike Gallagher: TikTok's propaganda has led over half of American youth to adopt a morally bankrupt worldview, supporting the brutal terrorist attacks by the Hamas organization on innocent Israeli civilians.
What's alarming is that TikTok is controlled by America's most significant adversary, the CCP, which has been conducting the largest-scale malign influence operation to date.
It's high time to either ban TikTok or, at the very least, compel its sale to an American company. The clock is ticking for the United States.
At @Judgemeadow Community College in Evington, Leicester three 14 year old boys have been arrested for the brutal assault two boys. The other boy not pictured was forced to kneel in a flushing toilet.
It BBC reports the victims were Sikh, we can guess who the perpetrators are.
The UK Parliament has gone into full-blown dictatorship mode against Russell Brand.
Caroline Dinenage MP — Chair of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee — has contacted every nearly major social media outlet to demand that he is deplatformed.
This is no longer just about Russell Brand.
This is about the State’s wrongful interference with the rights and freedoms of its citizens, based on accusations which have yet to be proven or disproven.
You’d be forgiven for mistaking this for the actions of China, Russia, or North Korea.
If the Government wants to behave like a dystopian dictatorship, it makes them no better than the oppressive regimes they claim to fight against.
Regardless of whether Brand is guilty or not, the Government has no right to “cancel” him, or anyone else for that matter. Frankly, if he is, this sort of outrageous authoritarianism does nothing to bring justice for his alleged victims.
Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
If they could do this to Russell Brand, they could do it to anyone.
This is the state of the United Kingdom in 2023. God help us all.
@Ocado got home at 7:45 to find my shopping delivered. Having scheduled delivery between 8 & 9, Would have been great if I was there. Now I have warm chicken, and have to go to the supermarket to do another shop. #angry
School girls and their parents protest in Dover following Afghan boys being placed in their school, and reports of a girl being sexually assaulted, instead of warning the Afghans, they tell them to dress differently.
@BritishGas@BritishGasHelp you have tripled my DD for G & E without telling me. I’m now overdrawn, can’t afford to pay my other bills or even buy my little girl a pint of milk! How can this be fixed? I need to speak someone please advise #greedy
